I found a kitten?

I found a tiny kitten lying down in the alley not far from my house. I gave it baby powder with water in a syringe. Although I can see that he doesn't like it, It must eat something. I checked on him about 10minutes ago and found it FULL of fleas. I gave it a bath and the fleas are now hiding in its face and around the eyes. I am scared to use too much of frontline on such a sall animal so I sprayed the box he is in and now i think he fell asleep. Can anybody give me their opinion on this matter? I will drop it at the vet tomorrow but otherwise, i do ot know what else to do.

I also adopted a kitten that I had found. I had the same problems with fleas, and they did all climb into his face as well. Most chemical flea killers are too harsh for a kitten of that size, and the package will probably say that it (Frontline, et al) are recommended for cats over 8 weeks of age. I tried spraying them around my kitten, as you did, but they made my kitten's eyes water, and he "cried" (meowed as if he was crying). My kitten was about 6 weeks old, yours sounds smaller so I'd imagine the spray might be physically harsh on him/her as well.
I personally think you will just have to isolate the kitten, so the fleas dont jump onto any other fabrics or pets. Also, I would recommend using a flea comb, and combing the kitten near a bowl of water. As you comb out a flea, you can kill it by drowning it.
As for the food, if you cannot find KMR, I dont know what else you can do except what you're doing already.
Baby powder?

What??

Is that a typo? Or is there soething that I don't know about.

Can I have him :) j/k
There is special kitty milk that you can buy at a grocery store caled cat-sips. Try giving it some of that until it is old enough for dry kitten food. Whatever you do, do NOT give it regular milk, kittens are lactose intolerant until they grow older. As far as the fleas go, thy giving it a bath with special flea dip or a flea collar. If they stay, call a vet and tell them your situation, they will suggest how much advantage is safe to use on a kitten, and they wont charge you for calling. Good Luck!
If you are in the Boston area and would like me to take the kitty and bottle feed him and care for him?

If so, drop me an email.
Looks like your doing right, Since its a smaller cat, he might prefer some milk over water (Older cats get indigestion from it)

Other than washing it, feeding it, and givin it some love I dont think theres much more that you can do.
we were in the same sittuation this summer. we found our kitten vinnie in the woods around our house, he followed our cat jake home. he was about 3-6weeks old when we found him. we gave him several flea baths, and he was so infested that the water changed colors from all the dried blood that was on his skin from the bites. then we wrapped him in blankets, put frontline on him, and gave him some adult cat food, because that's wat we had to give him at the time. he ate alot(he was soooo skinny and small!!!). he now eats kitten food, and has become quite the fatty. lol. we did take him to the vet the next day, got his shots, and registered him.

wait, y would u feed a cat baby powder? as in, babypowder that you use after taking a shower? or do u mean baby formula?

our cate jake likes cantaloupe, but i'm not sure about giving that to a tiny kitten.

good luck!!!
we found a 3 day old baby %26 then i found my karma, his sister at 3 weeks old...full of fleas too. i gave her a bath with her head out of water %26 no soap.the fleas hate water %26 drown. as for her head...i worked %26 worked at it %26 got them off with tweezers. i would never use frontline or anything like that on a baby! be careful of the sprays too.
you might need to get it a ketten baby bottle %26 as it gets used to it, it will learn to love feeding time.
babies take a lot of work! and a lot of love! but, it is well worth it. you can pick up a kittens for dummies book that will give you great tips.
but, you will have to be around every few hours to feed it then help it go to the bathroom. it will pretty much sleep the rest of the time. they love down comforters %26 maybe you can pick up a real cheap really small one for like $10 on sale somewhere as it is getting so hot.
at a few weeks old they will learn to use the litter box.
again, it is a big commitment that is well worth it, but babies are very fragile, so you must find out exactly what to do.
peace!
You've done your best and bless you for being so caring a person. No more spray though, please - some small animals can't tolerate the stuff.
Give him some heated milk. Then go up to the store and buy a small bag of food. Then look around the house and see if theres a box. If so tip it on its sid so the kitten can get in and out. Then put some blankets in there so the kitten can get all nice and cozy. If you do not want to keep him then put fliers around saying free kitten. If you can not get rid of him take him to the vets office they always make sure theyre animals go to good homes. Good luck. Hope that can help ya.
I'm not sure why you gave it baby powder but hopefully that won't make it too sick. I would give it another bath with flea shampoo. I'm sure if you call the Vet they will tell how much frontline to use. Please do not use any till you speak with them. I had a cat die from getting too much frontline. Petsmart has kitten formula to feed it with.
do not put any more front line on it ...it could hurt the kitten badly!!!...give it a warm bath with dawn dish soap ..or something like that and after , get a flee comb and try getting them out with that , have boiling water near by ..if you catch any flees put them in the boiling water to kill them , sometimes vasaline works good on a comb to get flees off too...hope i helped
There should be kitten formula at a local pet store
read the directions and feed through a syringe
DO NOT FEED MILK
it may get very sick
as for the feas you may use a kitten form of frontline or take it to your local vet

and please don't feed it baby powder
It is not wise to use flea medication on kittens or puppies. Call a vet and ask how to handle that situation. As for feeding him they have kitten supplement milk or you can use goat milk. We raised day old kittens on it and they grew strong an healthy. Good luck. Just be careful about any type of treatments on a young baby.
omgosh, poor little kittyyyy!! im glad that you are trying to help it. a lot of the people on here are right about giving it a flea bath or one of those colars.

im pretty sure that by baby powder you really meant the formula.. because ew lol.. no wonder why the little feller doesnt like it lol..

my parents got us kittens that were in a really terrible situation when we were younger and lucky (the smaller cat) almost died because of the previous owners who were upset because those 2 cats were not pure breads.

you just have to be patient w this little kitty. if you dont intend to keep it, you should contact your local spca :)
First of all, baby powder with water? Don't do that. Kittens cannot be around such medicines used for fleas without supervision from a vet. The best thing for you to do is take it right away to the vet, or animal shelter where experienced people can handle the fleas. If the kitten is old enough you may give it food formulated for a kitten or there is a type of milk you can get from your local pet store.
I just found a tiny little kitten recently too. I took him to the vet and they estimated his age at about 4-5 weeks old. By the time kittens areabout 3 weeks old, they technically can eat dry kitten food. The cat-sips that were mentioned are a good idea to keep up the nutrients. But here is what ya do. For the food, buy dry kitten chow and wet kitten food (but make sure it is for tiny little kittens, I'm using Purina One-Pro Choice for mine.) The wet food comes in little tiny cans, use about 1/8th of whats in the can (cut it like a pizza to measure it) and mix in a tiny little handful of dry food. add about a tbsp of warm (not hot) water and mix it all up. It's going to look gross, but the kitty will eat it. After a week or so you can start weening the wet food out of the mix if you want, but still make sure you add the water if the dry food is the crunchy kind. And make sure that the kitty always has access to water (obviously)
As far as fleas go, when I found mine, he was also covered in fleas, I took him to the vet (which is where i learned about the feeding thing) and she told me to fill a your sink about halfway with water, and put a dimesized amount of Dawn dish detergent into the water (not onto the kitty) Bathe him in the soapy water, rinse him well and towel dry him. The detergent will kill the adult fleas, but not the eggs. but if you repeat that about every week until there are no more fleas then you'll stop the cycle. Make sure you use Dawn, and not something else. Dawn is the only detergent approved for wildlife use, the rest are too harsh. and STOP USING FRONTLINE!! or anything like that on him, it can cause lesions on his skin because he is so small and sensitive.
If you're planning on keeping it, make sure that when he's old enough to get him checked for feline aids (FIV) and feline leukemia, which are both passed from mother to baby.

and what is the baby powder and water thing? I've never heard of it, but that cannot be healthy. Corn starch and water yeah, but baby powder has too many other "not meant to be ingested" things (talc is toxic in large doses, and the fragrances that are used cant be good for it.)
Awww poor little guy. =*( I have a kitten at home that was orphaned, I got him when he was 3 days old, he will be five weeks old on Friday. Baby kittens need to be fed every 2-3 hours with a small kitten bottle. Kitten Milk Replacement(KMR) is the best for the babies. They also need to be kept warm, so please, put a heating pad on the floor of the box, and cover it with a blanket so he can lay on it, it needs to be on low setting. Another thing, after eating, the kitten will need to be stimulated to go to the restroom, you do this with a warm, damp cotton ball or wash cloth and gently run their genitals and anus, so that they can go to the bathroom. I would use baby shampoo on the little guy since flea medication is too strong. Good luck with him!! If you need any tips or more advice, feel free to email me. kransdell617@yahoo.com
