I am worried about the kitten I just adopted?

Hi. I just adopted a 6-month-old kitten a few days ago from a rescue shelter. I have owned cats before, but I am worried about this one.

I understand her being skittish (it has only been a few days) but if I hold her she will sit for an hour or more letting me pet her and brush her. She will purr and even show me her belly so I know she is not afraid of me鈥?br />
She is barely eating however. It鈥檚 been a while since I had one this young, but maybe a handful (cup) of crunchies a day- and she seems to be drinking even less.

Most worrisome is the fact that she hasn鈥檛 touched her litterbox. Granted, even though I have looked, there is no way to verify she didn鈥檛 pee while I was out and it dried but I know she hasn鈥檛 pooped鈥?or if she did it is way too well hidden cause I have looked everywhere.

I am concerned. I spoke to a friend who is a cat person and she said it is fine still- but I can鈥檛 help worrying about my new girl.

Any advice is really really appreciated鈥?Thanks!
Answers:
take a feel around her lower half and see if it feels hard like a build up of poo inside.

Try this
place her in a single room with food, water and box . Dont allow her to leave the room for a day or two and see if she has used the potty or made tracks in it. Buy 2-3 more boxs and place around the house for her also to give her a choice on where to go.

Give her a longer time to adjust. Try a different food and litter, cause some do tend to be picky on the smell of the litter used. I had one like that. Try a fully covered litter box also for privacy and in a remote area of the house with less human traffic to help ease her in to feeling safe.

If all else failes and still no go on poo(when placed in the room alone for a day or two) then contact your vet and let them know whats going on.

%26#92;Had to add Some animals may get scared enought to eat little or stop eating if it donesnt feel safe enough to do so. A sudden change can cause it to happen. I heard about it from someone. Try tasty KFC chicken to helps with the food , who can resist that, lol.
I'll bet she pooped somewhere you just haven't found yet...
I would put ice cubes in in it's water dish to make it seem funnier, try many varieties of kitty food, and buy lots of fun toys to get your kitty to be more interactive.
She may be constipated, or have a bowel infection. Check with her veterinarian for more advice!
buy the clumping litter so that way you can definately tell by the clumps when you scoop that it has defecated or urinated.
your kitten may be normal. once i was concerned that my cat wasnt drinking water, but my vet told me it was because i gave it moist food and they like to store the water content from that for a long period of time.

it seems fine but i cant tell unless you're a little more specific unless thats it. if you havent taken it to the vet when you first got it, you definitely should now, even just to check for its health status in a check-up.
welll i was worried abou my new kitten and i took her to a really good vet down in davis and they told me what was wrong and after that i kept onplaying with her ,laying down with her , and baisicly never left her side so try to be with her 24/7 k
Take her to the vet for a check up. Maybe she ate something that didn't agree with her and caused constipation, maybe she has a hairball, maybe she has a blockage. A vet will be able to determine if there is stool in her bowels or not.

She may not be eating the food because it is new to her. Give her a few days to adjust to it, just make sure you aren't feeding her any of the pet food that has been recalled. Stick with the Purina brands, they haven't made the recall lists yet. If you're really worried about her not eating try offering her some table scraps. That will let you know if it's the food she's rejecting or if there is something wrong with her.
Hi

I am concerned about the not going and you should go to a vet. For eating, I would try things like boiled chicken, tuna, coldcuts, babyfoods without onions ect
Also, contrary to may people's beliefs, canned food (nhon gravy) is much healthier for all your cats
Just keep an eye on her for now- she's in a new situation, so she's pretty stressed out. Give her a couple more days, and if you still haven't found any signs of her...expelling waste, and she's still not eating/drinking much, you might want to call your vet to discuss it.
go to the vet
Call your vet. The cat could have worms or could have a kidney problem or crystals.
When a cat does not eat or urinate it is cause for immediate call to the vet.
Dont delay. Your cats health is at risk.

mayb u need 2 let it warm up 2 ur house as well, it may b fond of u but u should give it a chance 2 explore ur house so it can get use 2 it's new lifestyle. it may b afraid 2 try new things so u may also want 2 try showing it around and how everything works, well, not everything.(i wouldn't introduce it 2 ur toilet - it may fall rite in! =^_^=)
Hi there, usually cats get enough liquid from wet food but dry she needs to be drinking more. What about adding a little water to the dry food make it softer? she may eat more and the water might enhance the flavor.

She would have to be peeing and pooping because if it's been a few days, she'd be really in pain and sick, usually by 3 months they will do little finger sized poop, it might be hidden somewhere covered up where you didn't find it yet. You have to make sure she's going, confine her to the bathroom and leave the box in there with her along with food and water, check on her every so often, make sure you are home so it won't dry out and you can see. If you don't see anything with that method, she needs to go to the vet as she might have a blockage.
i would call the shelter where you adopted her and see if they will have her looked at for free just to make sure she is ok. if you dont like the shelter vet, call urs and tell themw hat is going on. youre right shes either hiding it well or theres something wrong.

good luck

cyndie
