Answers:
Being a stray cat he probably has worms.
He might have intestinal worms. You can buy wormer over the counter, I think I bought a "tiny tiger" brand at wal mart once. I think a stray should probably get de-wormed anyway.
Did you try deworming him?
maybe he needs worming, or if he eats a lot of bugs it can cause them not to gain weight, steralised cats seem to get bigger also.
he might have worms.sounds like kitty needs a check up at the vet!
If he isn't really skinny don't worry about it. It's kind of like people. Some people have fast metabolisms making them very skinny and others slow metabolisms making them heavier. He also may be very active. Don't feed him too much because if he's not used to eating a lot it could hurt him more than help. Gaining weight takes time.
If he is a stray then I suggest taking him to a vet to get a complete check up. Also don't forget to have him neutered. After you see the vet, if you can, buy him some good quality canned or dry foods like California Natural, Innova, Felidae, Solid Gold or Wellness. Stay away from Purina brands, Iams, Eukanuba or any other brand of cat food sold at supermarkets. They are pretty bad, just check out the ingredients, corn, rice, corn/wheat gluten, byproducts, and a bunch of chemicals, disgusting.
WORMS
sounds like worms
Have your cats stool checked at the vet it may have worms .Sometimes they are not visible to the naked eye.Another thing could be if your male is not neutered they are always on the look out for a female in heat so when this happens the only thing they want to do is breed they are not interested in food. Or your cat could have a number of disease's like being a diabetic or have kitty aids from living on the streets YOU CAN NOT GET THIS DISEASE AT ALL ONLY OTHER CATS. A vet can test for a number of things with a blood test.
Chances are he needs to be dewormed. That will cause him to not gain any weight. It will also eventually cause him not to gain any either.
Have you taken him to the vet? It sounds like he may have worms.
