I am getting a new cat...?

I am getting a new kitty on Friday. I adopted her through a local shelter. I am wondering what I can do to make her feel at home. I have always adopted cats who are older (4 years and above). Now, I am taking on a youngster! She is just 1 years old! She is super cute and very petite! Any information that other cat owners could give me would be much appreciated!!
Thanks!! %26lt; . .>

How wonderful! It's so much fun getting a cat.

Do you have other cats? The introduction process will be a little more complex if you do.

As soon as you get her home put her in a small room with her litter box, water, something nice for her to curl up in (even a box with a towel), and maybe a little food. A bathroom is good. After she's relaxed--no telling how long this will take--go in and pet her and talk to her. She may want to stay in her room or she may be ready to explore. You'll just have to see. When she's comfortable she'll be ready for fun with cat toys.

Sometimes shelter cats come with nasties like tapeworms. Make sure you take her to see the vet.

If you have other cats the introduction needs to be gradual. Keep the door to her room closed and let the other cats get a whiff of her. You can try letting her sleep on a towel and then taking it out so the other cats can investigate it. Gradually let them have more and more exposure to each other.

The sites below have lots of information.
find out what they feed her at the shelter and feed her the same thing, have lots of toys ready-they are very active at 1, still kittens, cat proof the house before she comes home and if you have any other pets then take them to the shelter to introduce them ahead of the day you bring her home
well, i would get a litterbox and a basket bed, and make sure the food bowl isnt too tall for her. make sure you get the food she would like because cats can be very picky about that. i would keep her as an indoor cat for a couple of months first, then slowly start letting her go outside if your cats are outdoor cats.
Cat's adopt their owners. She will have you trained in just a couple days. Enjoy.
Just try to create "comfort zones" for her...little places she can crawl into and feel safe and secure. My cats absolutely love to sleep in shallow cardboard boxes! Also, give her plenty of little toys to play with and posts for scratching. And shower her with affection!
I have 10 cats! Believe me I know how to win their affection!
And make them feel at home. First.. you have to tak very good care of her. give her a bed, litterbox, give her her shots... oh and give her the same kind of food they fed her at the shelter. Give her plenty of attention, and before you know it, she will feel right at home.
aww good for you saving lives shelter animals are the best ! just get her a few toys, and the food you may have to get a few varietys .too check out what one she likes best .then when you see you will know her favorite . hold her and cuddle her to let her know you love her, if shes gonna be an indoor get her a litter box also .oh yeah before you know it she will find her favorite place to sleep lol im very sure she will be happy with you i bet your so excited good luck with your new kitty .
Congratulations!

If you have another cat or cats, make sure to do the introductions slowly - this article explains how: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac...

Your youngster may be more active - if you don't already have a cat tree, it would be a good idea to buy or build one.

You can use play therapy as a way to keep her happy %26 exercised: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac...
If you play with her in the evening and follow up with a nice meal, it should help keep her calmer at night so you can sleep.

Make sure she has plenty of things to keep her safely occupied while you're away:

Enjoy your new cat!
The only thing I can add to all of these suggestions is to get her her own bed and or blanket. Keep it with her, so it will smell like her. My cats all have a favorite blanket that they have had since coming to my house.
