I have 3 cats. One of them has urinated twice today outside the litter box. The urine is dark brown?

I am not sure which one, though I think it is my 10 year old male tabby. I found the first urine on the tile floor just in a puddle. I thought at first someone had spilled coke. The second urine was discovered a few hours later on a piece of clean white laundry that was on my bedroom floor. None of the cats are acting strangely that I can see. What could it be?
Answers:
Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. Get him to a vet pronto!
Cats urinating outside of the litterbox could be many things, as simple as the fact the litter box isn't being cleaned enough to their tastes, to the fact that they do not wish to share the box with other cats -- to the first warning signs that something SERIOUS is wrong.

Given the unusual color of your cat's urine, I am strongly urging you to take him to the vet.

Male cats, especially fixed male cats, are notorious for having crystals in the bladder, as well as urinary track infections and issues with Kidney's.

It's a mix of simply genes, and not enough water being taken in by the cat.

Some male cats suffer simple blockages that, without proper and simple treatment, turn fatal!

So, best bet is for you to take the little brown-pee-man into the Vet.

Often, one does not know something is seriously wrong with an animal because they appear to behave normally. By the time you start seeing symptoms, it may be too late. :/

I hope all goes well, whatever you decide!
Are you sure it doesnt have blood in it???

I really strongly suggest taking it to the vet ASAP...both of them!!

Try and get a sample...not easy but ...give them a clean litter tray each and lock them in a seperate room each. Put small pebbles like in an aquarium (but new and clean) you dont have to fill the tray with them. then once they have gone put the pee into sample jars with their names on them (not the pebbles they are just for the cat to scratch). Get the urine tested and the cats checked out.

doesnt sound good..have you changed litter recently??

Good Luck~!
could be a urinary tract infection, stones/crystals in the kidneys or bladder, kidney problems, def something is wrong in the urinary tract system. you need to take your kitty in for some lab tests. best of luck.
check ur 10 yr olds penis and if the tip is red he is more likely the one.
this sounds to me as urine crystals almost lost two of our males to this and it was due to thier diets they had enough water but fed them purina cat chow. my vet advised us to start buying friskies cat food and havent had problems since.
another idea is to watch them closely and note when they urinate and check it. even though the litter is in the pan u can still make out the color as they use it.
in any case please contact the vet asap this is life threatening for the cat.
This cat is trying to bring this to your attention any way it can, by peeing where you would notice it. The cat realizes something is wrong and its up to you to take him/her to the vet NOW. Brown urine usually means blood, and no good can come of that.
You need to take it to the vet it sounds like a urinary tract infection good luck
It sounds like a urinary tract infection to me, but you need to get your cat to the vet ASAP. This could be something very serious. Brown urine is definitely a bad sign.
Take your at to the vet ASAP! Today if possible. He may have a urinary track infection. My male cat gets them. Crystals will form in the urine and they could create a blockage which could turn out to be a bad thing.

Most cats are put on antibiotics and they are better within days. Your cats issue sounds a bit more advanced. The reason he is peeing outside the litter box and on sheets is to let you know that something is wrong and it hurts when he pees.

I have 3 cats that I need good homes for. their ages are 3, 5,& 6. very good pets. alisa_bunting@yahoo.com?

I have moved and can't have pets, plus husband is allergic. The oldest is a great outdoor cat (mouser) the other two are loving cats. All female and spayed. please email me. I live in the Pierce County area of Wa State.
Answers:
Put them in the recycler the adds are free they also have a section for free pets.
Craigslist.org %26 Petfinder.com are great websites to re-home pets (as long as you steer clear of spammers, of course). I live in the WA state, different county though. Only thing I can think of, is if you are unable to find homes, yourself, check for local no-kill rescues to help.
I am dieing for kat! i dont want a kitten though. can i see a picture? email me at oinker_obsetions@hotmsil.com !!!

I dont have any other pets( besides a fish). I will take good care of it! i live in mo!

I have 3 cats and they stink the house out. Short of corking there feline a rses?

what is a good air freshner to make my house smell almost hospitable again?
Answers:
First, the better quality food you feed your animals, the less their poop will stink. Check the list of ingredients in their wet and dry food to be sure that a recognizable form of animal protein is the first ingredient: chicken, fish, turkey or beef. Second, the litter pan should be cleaned twice daily: all poops scooped, and all pee-litter outta there. Once the stink sources are removed, tilt the litter pan to one side so that the litter goes to the tilted side and about half of the bottom of the pan is exposed. When you tilt it and the dry stuff slides in the direction of the tilt, there may be some wetish stuff that clings to the bottom. Using a non-slotted scoop, scoop this stuff out. This is the stinkiest stuff in the pan. Then, fill a spray bottle with a diluted solution of chlorine bleach: one part bleach to ten parts water. Spray this solution on the sides and exposed bottom of the pan, then wipe clean with paper towels. Tilt the pan to the other side and repeat. Chlorine bleach neutralizes poop and pee, and the stuff that clings to the bottom of the pan stinks the worst.

I know this sounds like a lengthy process, but it only takes a minute, and it makes a BIG difference.

Do you have enough litter pans? You should have 3-4.

Finally, I have never tried it, but there is definitely a food additive you can buy at the pet supply store that you mix in with their food and that guarantees their poop will not stink anymore. You can ask at the pet supply stores or go online to www.drsfostersmith.com to see if they have it.

Hope this helps.
Change the kitty litter brand. That's the #1 source of odor at least with my cats.
I think febreeze works well covering up odors but thats what youll be doing. If they are males and spraying then get the fixed ASAP. The urine from any cat and spray from a male cat all has ammonia in it which is what makes it stink so bad. Some petstores carry sprays to help eliminate odors like this.
I agree change the brand. I use fresh step scoop for multicats and it works well, but you need to clean the litter everyday to really conquer the smell. I like the clumping litter so it's easier to clean. Also you could use an air freshener that has a fan like glade that can spread the scent throughout the house.
Here's an idea.,. Shampoo them with whatever product a vet might suggest, feed them light.,if you will/Foods that might not sit-heavy on the stomach %26 are recomended for cats as`far as helping diet, vision, fur %26 general health !!good luck!!"R"r`r,r;r->
Make sure your cats are altered. They will spray and are very territorial if unneutered. No smell is worse than cat urine. The only way I know to get it out is get some sort of pet urine remover at PetsMart, Petco, etc. and treat all spots that are stained. Blot and blot with towels trying to remove as much urine as possible. Retreat if necessary. Fabriz Fabric Spray is the best follow up. If the urine has been there a long time, you will probably have to replace the area that has been soiled. Use sand base cat littler. Some cats are very picky when it comes to cat litter. Most don't readily accept the courser litter, but most will readily accept the sand litter. Good luck!
Keep the litterboxes cleaner and neuter the cats.
Use a good brand of litter and change it every day. With 3 cats you may need to change it twice a day. I have 5 cats and the litter never smaeels. i change it morning and night. The scoopable ones tend not to be any good if you have more than 2 cats as they seem to go solid within a very short time which also causes odour.

I have 2 wonderful cats but now I'm pregnant and everyone is telling me I have to put them to sleep...?

I am 13 wks pregnant and I know I can't change the litter box and I have someone else doing it. But ppl keep telling me that when the baby comes my cats will kill it trying to get the milk out of its mouth... This situation has me all confused because to me my cats are family and they are my first children its not that easy for me to just kick them out like that... any advice please!
Answers:
You DO NOT have to put your cats to sleep or even give them away. All you need to do is have someone else change the litter box and teach the cats to stay out of the baby bed.

We raised our children and when they were infants we had several cats in the home. Our cats never "stole the baby's breath" or any of that other stuff they tell you. That is all urban legend and old wives tails.

This is how we kept our cats out of the baby bed/bassinet. First set them up early...when you are 5-6 months along. Then each time you catch the cat in the baby bed, squirt it with a water gun...they get the hint...quick. Squirt the cat even if it sees you and tries to jump out...the more you squirt the more they learn to hate the baby bed. We had a stubborn cat so my aunt suggested this idea: blow up a bunch of balloons and fill the baby bed with them. Cats LOATHE balloons.this worked with our stubborn cat. My friend placed strips of tape sticky side up in the baby bed. This worked with her cat.of course she then had to catch him to take the tape off of him but it sure worked.

You can also ask you vet about other ways to teach the cat to stay out of the baby's bed.
your cats are not going to kill your baby for it's milk - that's the most retarded thing I've ever heard.
no I have had my cat for 6 years and I have a 4 year old. Just have someone do the litter box for you that is the only concern I know of. The milk thing is an urban legend along with them stealing their breath.
No, you do not need to put your cats down aslong as you are sensible and take precautions.

Sometimes cats sleep on babies, so aslong as you place a net over the babies cot or keep the cats out of the room, there is not a problem.

The trying to get milk from the babies mouth is a myth. For more, see:
http://www.snopes.com/critters/wild/cats...

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Cats and babies can get on very well. I've got loads of photos of me as a baby - most of the time I was asleep on my mums lap, and the cat was curled up asleep with me!
dont leave your baby on the floor! ;)
what in the world? who told you that you HAVE to put them down? that's so stupid, don't do it. but it would be best if you got rid of the cats. maybe you can have a friend or family member take care of them until you can go back to taking care of them.
that is such an old wives tale.. and its completely ridiculous!

but if you chose to believe it..or worry about it..AT LEAST find the cats a new home..dont have them put to sleep! thats terrible... :o(
If you really can't keep them, put them up for adoption or give them to a loyal friend. You can visit them all you like, otherwise, if you decide to keep the cats, keep them in another room with a sturdy door.
WRONG wrong wrong!! I had cats for years before I had kids and have had cats for years since they were born. Never once did my cats do anything to hurt my babies! Sometimes they will get in the crib and put their face near the baby's face and I don't know why, but it never hurt my kids when they did it. My kids and my cats have always gotten along.
DON'T DO THAT... if you need to get rid of them give them away...

by the way, whoever told you that is insane... the only legitimate reason i have ever heard of for pregnant women to not be around cats is because of a certain disease they can transmit... how about talking to a vet or a doctor who actually knows what they're talking about??
No, unless your cats are vicious and attack constantly, you don't have to worry about them killing your baby for milk.
This is an old wives tale. As long as your baby is not allergic there is no reason not to keep your cats. And should that turn out to be the case, I think giving them away is a much better option than putting them down.
Keep your cats, there's no reason that you would need to get rid of them.
i had 2 babies with 4 cats in the house. there were absolutely no issues at all. i don't know why they are telling you this..maybe they just want you to get rid of the cats?
things will be fine. just an old wives' tale.
That's crazy. I know many people who have cats and have had babies. It's true that you need to keep an eye on them for signs of aggression, and to make sure that they don't accidentally lay on the baby to snuggle. And you already mentioned that you know about not doing the litter while you're pregnant. I think things will be fine - ignore the people who are telling you to get of the cats.
Is giving them away an option perhaps to a family member, that way you will still get to see them and you will know that they are going to a good home.
people are funny...
keep your cats... .let someone else keep changing the litter box...
my baby loves the kitty!
don't put them to sleep! that is just an old wives tale.
Personally, if I were you I'd get a self-cleaning litter box!
When my brother and sister (and me) were born my cats acted normal.
(Except 4 the crying baby)
GET THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED THEN THROUGH THEM IN THE PARK SOMEWHERE THEY WILL BE FINE BY THEM SELF'S.
a cat will not try to kill a baby for milk. Keep the cats just keep an eye on them because they will be curious about the new baby.
not true at all. you can keep your cats.
Your friends are ridiculous. We had a baby and although the cats were a little jealous, there was never any problems.
Do you believe EVERYTHING you hear or are told? I mean cause you can't give them away, you have to put them to sleep, right? I guess everyone you've ever know with cats put them to sleep when the baby came?!!!
Who ever is telling you that you have to put your kitties to sleep is someone I would definitely put on a list of guests to not invite to the baby shower or any other parties after that.
That`s so wrong. Don`t listen to those people
You are hearing an old wives tale. You don't have to get rid of your cats.

Think about this... have you ever seen anything on the news about killer cats? Ever? Maybe in the National Enquirer where they come from Mars but not here.
Ignore those ignoramuses! That is one of the craziest old wives tales on the planet! You and your baby will be fine...I was born into a 2-cat family and here I am at the ripe old age of 51...I survived and so will you, your fur-babies and your soon-to-be human baby!
What!?!? Whoever is telling you that doesn't know what they are talking about. Here are valid concerns...
1. Do your cats puke or poop on the floor? You don't want baby crawling in that.
2. Are your cats territorial? They may not accept new baby.
3. Are your cats snuggly? They may suffocate sleeping baby while trying to snuggle with it. - This is the biggy!
Don't be ridiculous!

Cat's don't kill babies trying to compete for milk.

Of course, you need to keep your baby and the cats separated for awhile until the baby builds up a bit of an immune system. However, the idea that you must put your cats to sleep because you will be having a baby is absurd.

I have 2 questions about my cat?

The first question is: My cat snores loud while she is sleeping, is this normal or could it be a health concern?

Second question: First of all my cat is about 5 weeks pregnant and I notice while she is sleeping she jerks alot her ears twitch, her paws twitch and she makes a noise like she is moanning, I want to know is she dreaming or is she feeling the kittens moving around? Should I wake her up?
Answers:
Your cats are normal, as for the twitching, the cat is dreaming or even kittenss moving, my cats twitch and they are spayed and neutered, and they both snore. Never wake a cat up from sleep unless you notice a horribile dream anf pet the cat slowly and say it's name lightly to wake it. Got to be careful with waking it. This could cause harm to cat if you wake it up abruptly for no reason. Let them sleep and dream and snore. I had cats my whole life and I am 52 years old and I always had and have them regular vet check ups.
my cat snores 2 very loud he has always done it %26 never took no harm from it. cats always jerk about when asleep well mine all do anyway just leave her to sleep she is dreaming
I am not a vet, but I think she is just dreaming, cats do that all of the time lol
Try speaking to her nicely to comfort her, but let her sleep.

As far as the snoring goes, cats do snore too sometimes, but just in case go get her checked out.
If she is expecting a litter she should have a vet visit anyways.
the snoring could be an overweight problem. The twitching is dreaming, our cats do the same
I have two cats who snore while sleeping!
I don't think you should worry but as a precaution I regularly check their noses and clean them if necessarily...

The twitching is probably because she is dreaming...
You don't have to wake her but when she starts to "talk" in her sleep be there when she wakes up...they tend to be disorientated after vivid dreams...
i dont know but i just love cats!
Snoring is natural especially in short nosed breeds (Persians, Exotics). As far as the twitching she is dreaming and dreaming means that she is sleeping normally. At five weeks the kittens are not moving that much. they are just half way through their fetal development.
She is probably dreaming or it may be her nerves making her ears twitch. Her snoring is normal. I have a male cat who snores too. Best of luck with your kitty. Hope her birthing goes good.

I have 2 male cats a year and a half apart in age they have been great together but know fighting.?

I have gone through the initial teething problems with a new male kitten in the house. They seemed fine together but now sooty has turn a year the older cat is being very aggessive and sooty is scared to be in the same place as him. He had scratches on his ear and chin last week and was always looking for me to protect him. Neither cat has had the operation as I think this is cruel. Would this help?
Answers:
Hi there!

I'm not sure if I've gotten this right, but is Sooty now 1 year old and the older cat is 2.5 years old?

I understand your reasons for thinking that neutering is cruel. Trust me though, it's not. To help you make your decision, you should read the following article; it helped me reach the decision to neuter my male cat:

http://www.petsmart.com/global/articles/...

If anything it is kinder to neuter the cat - especially if they are indoor cats. It decreases their sexual appetite, so instead of getting stir crazy and frustrated with no females to mate with, they will feel indifferent about mating. This is why neutered cats are calmer. Unneutered cats are basically sexually frustrated and this is what causes the aggression. They also have too many male hormones in their body, which furthers the aggressive behaviour.

Some people class neutering as being just as cruel as declawing a cat. The reason I disagree is this = declawing a cat ONLY benefits the human. It does not benefit the cat in ANY way, shape or form - in fact, it often greatly hinders the cat and causes problems such as wounds on the paws. Neutering a cat is often beneficial for the owners - more placid pets and no unsavoury 'spraying' by the male cats. However, it also benefits the cat in terms of behaviour, stress (less of it) and very importantly, it decreases the risk of many diseases.

Sooty has now reached sexual maturity and this is why they are suddenly fighting. Your older cat basically now sees him as a threat, because Sooty is (in cat terms) a 'man' instead of a 'boy'.

You should definitely get both of your cats neutered straight away and this will help the problem massively. You may find that they still have the occassional fight, but this is natural. You might be interested to know that cats of the same sex find it harder to get along than cats of the opposite sex! There is too much competition going on, and now that Sooty is turning into an adult cat, your older cat is worried about being knocked off the 'top spot'.

If it helps, my two (neutered) male cats still chase each other round the house and fight regularly, but a few hours later they will be curled up together like they are truly in love! Your cats will work things out between them, and if they are not hissing a lot at each other in future, the fights are nothing to worry about. Here are some links to help you to understand their behaviour and possibly try to help them work things out!

you cant put two older males together that are not fixed because of teritoial issues
Well, I think they fighting is because now, 'Sooty' is an enemy of the older cat. Sooty is of mating age and the older cat probably doesn't want to lost territory or mates (even if there aren't any female cats; it's still instinct).
If Sooty is now 1 and the cats are a year and a half apart, that makes the other cat 2 1/2, correct?
Well, if so, the other cat is too old for the operation and the younger cat might be as well. Call your vet to find what the ages are for the 'operation'. Good Luck!
The older cat is probably reaching sexual maturity and is getting very territtorial and is taking it out on the other cat, i am wary of getting animals dressed too but in males it really helps, and they become very loving and cuddly :) but keep the little chap away from the older one for a little while and see if that helps, also it is the start of summer so the mature male will be in heat.

Hope this helps :)
Sooty on turning one has now developed sexual desires. With no female cat in the house he has probably tried to shag the older cat up the ****. Look at it from the older cats perspective, if some little bloke tried to ram his **** up your **** wouldnt you be a bit aggresive.
Had the same problem myself and one cat left home i have not seen him for ages.you should ask your vet as neutering them might help. it maybe that they both scenting the garden and i think them having the opp changes the smell of the scent
Male cats are territorial. Unless they are both neutered they will continue to fight. Even after neutering they may fight occasionally but they should calm down and will probably become good buddies.
Yes the neutering would help. It is not cruel. And it means your cats are less likely to run away or spray.
Hello...it's cuz they aren't FIXED...if you think fixing is too cruel, seems them beating the heck out of each other %26 tearin each other up is even more cruel, not to mention what the spray smell must be like, it is their natrual instinct to spray, especially when not fixed or had the "Operation" as you say...Take Care :)
Sounds like your cats have territory and dominance issues. It's a very common problem with un-neutered cats.

Neutering them should help. All my male cats have been neutered for two reasons, 1. I don't want them to mark their territory indoors and 2. So that they can get along better.

Neutering is a relatively uncomplicated procedure. My youngest cat was neutered just a couple of months ago when he was 7-8 months old. He came home with just two tiny cuts, no stitching, and he was back to his old self just four hours after surgery. None of the cats I've had have seemed to be in any pain or discomfort after the surgery. What appeared to be the worst for them was waking up fully after the anaesthesia.

I don't think it would be cruel to neuter your cats, in my opinion it's more cruel to force two un-neutered male cats to share a territory when they obviously can't seem to strike a balance. It must be very stressful for them.
it is really important to have your cat neutered - if you don't your cat will cost you more in vets bills due to fighting with other cats in the area and coming back with infections and injuries, you may loose them as they will wander you will also contribute to the number of neglected strays and ill treated cats in the area - if you do not give them the 'OP' you are an irresponsible cat owner
hows the snip being cruel? whats cruel is letting your cat sow its seed and inturn bringing lots of unwanted cats into the world. you wont stop them fighting its the more dominant cat showing whos boss.
I'm guessing your a bloke??
Why is it only blokes who think it's cruel to neuter their tom cats or male dogs?

They aren't *your* balls are they!!

Let them have the op!
It will sort them out big time!
Either that or let them tear shreds out of each other and spray that stink around your home if that's what you prefer! :-D

I have 2 kittens that will be (9) weeks old. I ordered the vaccines.?

I order the shots from Jeffers. Do you think it is safe for me to give them the shots myself? Did anyone ever have trouble with the vaccines from Jeffers?
Answers:
I have used Jeffers vaccines a few times %26 I never had any trouble. I gave the shots myself. It was easy %26 the directions they send are pretty detailed
I've worked in vet clinics for over 12 years. You need to know how to give the shots. Are they the type that just go under the skin, or the ones that go into a muscle? Make sure your needles are sharp and don't reuse them. Your best bet is having it done by a professional, but if you must do it yourself, then make sure to pull back on the plunger of the syringe before injection to make sure you aren't in a vein.
If you have never gave a cat shots before you should know they have skin like a raw hide..I give my dogs shots and we got the cats this year It was the hardest thing i had ever done .I took them to our vet and she helped me do the rest it is NOTHING like a dogs skin and i was so scared i would hurt them or it would break with it inside .. Not sure on the shots itself i get mine from fosters smith
Good luck!!!
I am NOT trying to mean. But I think if you need to ask then you need a vet. Maybe visit a vet and ask them how to show you for the first time so you know for the second.
Good luck either way
You should probably have the vet do it if you aren't comfortable. Each kind of vaccine has a specific place that it is injected. It also has to be administered the correct way. Do you know if its IM or SQ? Do you know what can happen if you inject it incorrectly? Do you have someone who knows how to restrain the cat properly while you do the vaccine so neither of you are bitten? Do you know what signs to look for if your cat has an allergic reaction to it? Are you positive that you got the right vaccines that your cat needs? If you can't answer these questions then you don't know what you are doing and need to have the vet do it.

I have 2 cats. one is 2 years old and the other is 12. One male...one female. they hate each other. HELP!!!?

what should i do? i try to keep them seprate but no help. Disiplane doesn't help either.
Answers:
my two cats don't get along either. my female is two and my male is one. when i first took my male cat home my female almost killed him. you have to discipline the behavior. water bottles always work. now I'm home less and when the male wants to play, my female usually hisses at him because she's out of that playful stage. the only thing you can do is to continue with discipline. that's the only way they will learn to get along or agree to disagree. good luck.
Did you just get the second cat and introduce them to each other right away? Youre supposed to keep them separated for a month or so at first. Now it may be too late. They may NEVER get along.
I completely understand what you are going through. I just brought home a new kitty (four year old female) and she does not get along with one of my other cats (three year old female) at all. They see each other and start yowling and growling and so on. I have heard from some people that the feliway works pretty well. You can find it at Petsmart and online at various places. I have also been told that it helps to show them both affection at the same time. Pet one kitty with one hand, and the other with your free hand. Beyond these suggestions, I am stumped, lol. I am just hoping that my two girls learn to love each other or at least tolerate one another, lol! Good luck and let me know if you find a lasting solution! I do not agree that it might be too late. Never hurts to hope, right?!
When I got my kitten I had a ten year old and a two year old. The two year old got the same treatment when she was a new kitten from the ten year old. So, she kind of took to the new kitten as if she could relate to how it was being treated. So, she became the new kittens big sister. But, the kitten gets on the two year olds nerves at times too. The vet told me that kittens only mission in life is to irritate cats.
Get another cat. It will help them focus their anger on something else %26 possibly they all might get together.

I have 2 cats that constantly beg to go out, but the vet says that's bad for them. Should I let them out?

The cats seem so miserable untill they go outside. They love it out there, but I don't leave them out very long. I hate for them to get fleas, or get lost or whatever outside,,,but that's all they beg for. What should I do. I want to make them happy.
Answers:
We all want our pets to be happy. Well...most of us.

My cat is an indoor cat. After we adopted him, he protested like the baby he is. But we bought him some toys, gave him LOTS of love and attention with as much playtime as we could afford and kept him entertained.

Your vet is right. Your cats will live so much longer if they are simply kept indoors. I know it's difficult to see them wanting to go outside but sometimes, the darned cats don't know what's best for them.

Keeping them indoors keeps fleas and ticks off of them (as well as off of you and out of your home); eliminates the chance that some wack job will hit them with their car; protects them from people who like to hurt animals, mean dogs and other cats that can hurt them; and minimizes the chances of catching disease (e.g., FIV, Lyme disease, rabies).

You'll save money from having to make unnecessary vet visits and it'll save you grief and sadness should something horrible happen to one of them. I have been the owner of cats that were indoor/outdoor kitties...believe me when I advise against letting them go outside!

I know you love your cats. I can see it! But keeping them indoors is better for everyone in the long run. As long as they have plenty of kitty toys to play with, they will learn how to be indoor cats.

Good luck!
NO.

The biggest reason is that you don't want to contribute to overpopulation of unwanted kittens AND cats can catch all kinds of diseases out there. Keep kitty safe at home.
Why does the vet say that going outside is bad for cats? Are you in an area close to a road or river or what? Most cats love the great outdoors, but it is your job to make sure that they stay out of danger. If there is no danger, then I cannot see why it would be bad for your cats to go outdoors.
It depends on where you live. There is nothing wrong with letting them out with supervision. You wouldn't want them getting run over or getting in a fight with a raccoon or anything, but my cats go outside every day and I have never gotten fleas or any diseases. Usually the only cats who run off are un-neutered males in search of a female. If your cats are fixed and have had a rabies vaccine, I don't see any reason to coop them up in doors when the weather is so nice. Just keep an eye on them. They even sell little cables for cats like what they have for dogs that are outside so they can explore, but stay in a controlled area. It's always an idea.
It can be bad for your cats to go outside if you haven't taken the proper preventative measures for that.
Your vet can tell you what you need to do to make sure your kitties stay healthy when they are out.
You can use flea/tick preventative on them, and you should start them on a heartworm preventative, like heartguard, as heartworm disease is present in all 50 states (it is passed by mosquitos) and is very difficult to treat in cats.
It's best to let your cats out into an enclosed area, or with a leash on, so they don't run away. They can get frightened easily. Just in case, they should each have a collar with your address and phone number, and their most recent rabies tag on it.
Being outdoors can be dangerous, but there are ways to make it safer for your little fuzz balls.
No, personally I disagree with letting cats outdoors unrestrained. It is so much safer inside. However, you could leash train them with a harness. A lot of people do this and their cats love it. Another option is to build an enclosure that they can get to through a window or cat door. Make sure it's fenced on the sides and the top. You can even make it interesting by giving them things to climb on in the enclosure. They're actually relatively simple and inexpensive. You can learn more about them and how to make them here http://www.catsofaustralia.com/cat-enclo...
well, my cats roam freely in and out of the house ( we have dog doors for our dogs, but the cats use em' too) and they seem fine. i will admit that we had two cats a couple of years ago that disappeared and haven't been seen since. we have coyotes that roam late at nght so we assume they got killed by them. but we don't know. so we worry some times. but it's all good. :)
umm i wouldnt trust that vet. my vet lets his cat outside all the time! my cat lives outside and he loves it! i would let them out when they want but if u want to b safe i would maybe watch them cuz there not really outside cats.
No, absolutely not. It has been proven that cats that go outside have a shorter life span than cats that are kept indoors. Cats are very susceptible to various diseases.
You're getting really good answers here, but something else to consider is how well you know these cats. If you've had them from kittens, you're probably okay, but if not, putting them on a leash could result in disaster. I put a cat on a leash and he was fine until i took him outside and he freaked. He exploded out of the harness and the collar, blew the leash off like it was nothing and ran away at amazingly high speed. Two weeks later, we finally found him. Turns out that a previously feral cat (one that has been living outside on his own) is not a good candidate for leash walking. He turned wild again almost instantly and we could have lost him for good. He had been hit by a car in those two weeks and nearly starved. It took quite a while to regain his trust, and needless to say, he's never been on the outside again other than in a latched carrier.
if you want to make them happy, maybe buy them a treat or something. Don't let them out if the vet says its bad for them! they will die sooner, maybe once every week or every second week, take them outside (with you beside them) but only for like 5 minutes!
just give them once a month flea and tick topic treatment, and train them to walk on leashes so you can take them out to the park for longer periods of time: That's what I do with my cat and he loves to go on walks! If you can't get them to walk on a leash then try getting them a kitty stroller (ebay search : pet stroller) as long as they have flea and tick treatments and you are there to supervise then they should be just fine
I also have cats that beg to go outside and whenever they go out they love it, the only problem is that if you start letting your cats out they might try to get out every time the door is opened and they might even rip up your screens if they still have claws, and if they don't you probably shouldn't let them out because it could be dangerous for them if they don't have a way to defend themselves, you also might want to consider a chain or leash of some sort so you can tie them out without worry of them running off or getting hurt
It can be done if you are willing to take time to do it, so few people want to invest that time. As so many of us know, all it takes is educating the cat about outdoors. That's all.
Take 5 minutes the first day, either on leash or in your arms, let kitty smell and look but not walk around, same for a few days after that. One day at a time, gradually a bit more each day.
Then take them to a car that's about to start, but do this in your arms, secure, and have someone start the car. They won't like it and if you do that twice, they'll do anything to avoid cars in future. Do the same with dogs. Teach your cats to walk on a leash and walk her along a road a few times, that way they'll know that roads have those noisy things they dislike so much, and they'll avoid those too. The more you show your cats, the safer they are.
Remember, this is about educating the cat the way you want them to be - safe. Make sure they are fixed. And that they are Frontlined or have tick and flea collars.
Firs the first few months or so, always be with them outdoors, so you can see they have learnt.
If you do this gradually and repeat it again and again, they learn, cats are not as stupid as some owners would have them be. They learn fast.
As long as kitty's shots are up to date, kittys are microchipped and have been taught by you they'll hang around home, having them fixed also cuts down the chance of straying.

The reason why your vet said no, is since most people cannot be bothered to teach their cat anything about safety, and so many of us have proven that if you teach your cat right, it's safe. Contrary to what indoor-only people would like to believe, cats outdoors do not live 3 years, in that case someone should have told my cat and many others that they should have droppeddead many years ago, but they're not, they are happy and healthy and ahve the outdoors to play in too. My vet only has to see my cat for boosters, and always comments on in what stunning condition she is. I live between a highway and a busy road, for reference.

Alternatively have a Purrfect sat fence system put up, that way they can go outdoors but not get outside of your garden, and everyone wins.

If you have cyotes and eagles who roam where you live, rather keep the cats indoors, or if your cats are declawed, then it's not safe.
If you want expensive vets bills then let them out as offen as you like. You have to think of it this way, Cats meet up with other cats which mean your cats will more then once meet up with a stray, and who knows what kind of illnesses they have.
So listen to the vet and DON'T LET THEM OUT.
I agree with your vet, it's so much safer for your kitty to not let him go outside unsupervised. I work at a cat shelter, and we get so many cats who were probably "loved" indoor/outdoor cats who were brought in. There owners probably just thought they "disappeared" and thought no more of it, when more often than not the cats end up euthanized. There's nothing sadder than having an owner come looking for there cat a week after their cat disappeared only to find out its already been euthanized.
There are so many diseases out there, such as FelV/FIV and parasite (fleas included). Keeping them inside and away from all of this will ensure that your kitties will live longer, healthier lives. No chance of getting into fights with other cats or dogs or being hit by a car from the safety of their home!
Plus, I know most cities have ordinances to always keep your pet leashed and/or on your own property at all times. So you'll also be obeying the law by keeping your cat inside and not roaming at large!
If you find that you absolutely cannot stand to keep them indoors (and I think you'll find that eventually they'll get used to it and not even miss outside at all if you give them enough attention inside!), you might consider building them a "cat fence". These fences are designed in a way that the cat is not able to jump over them and get out. So this way they can enjoy the outdoors, but without the worry of getting lost, hit by a car, or hurt by a person or a dog. You'd still have to worry about fleas though.
My cat is an outdoor cat and she loves it. Your vet is saying that it is better for them to stay inside because they can't catch anything from other cats inside your house. They should have all their vaccinations and flea tratments every three months to prevent fleas. I also hope you don't live on a busy road because a lot of cats are killed by cars. Think of it this way, would you rather live a long life in prison or a short life free? I think the best thing to do is outside during the day and inside during the night as it is harder for drivers to see cats on the road at night.
listen to all the other answers but i'm guessing your cats still have their claws. so unless they have been declawed don't even consider letting them out. Also try to keep some plants around inside your house cuz maybe they just want out to nibble on the greens that they crave so i'm sure once they have spayed and declawed and refused to be let out they will stop begging. it has alot to do with descipline. my cat was an outdoor cat at first but once i got her she was never let out and if she did sneek out i would spray her with the hose and so she got scared of going out again. now she's safe and content inside. also it keeps her away from getting into contact with other animals that can give her diseases.
There are alternatives that will make them just as happy, if not more, such as enclosed areas. Or if they have their shots, put them on harnasses and watch them run around. It is very unsafe, cats actually domesticated themselves hundreds of years ago becuase they like to be pampered. Think of it this way: Kids love to run and play, but you don't just let a two year old outside of the house to run in front of a car? It is fun to hang outside with them, or dress up windows for them to enjoy. If you have let them go outside, that is why they are freaking out, indoor cats are just fine until they get a taste of outside and the crazy adventures there. They should calm down and be happy if they have a nice indoor place. My cat used to LOVE to go outside, and I went out with her for long periods daily, sometimes on a leash, othertimes supervised, but later on all she wanted was her fancied up balcony with grass to lay in, and she was safe and having a blast.
I wouldn't advise letting them out unless they are leashed. Too many cats run out into the road and get seriously injured or killed. They can also get feline leukemia that way. How about opening up a window, with screen on it, someplace in the house where, say, a lot of birds feed, or people walk by! That will keep them occupied.
Cats can get leukemia, a form of cat cancer, which is contagious and is passed from one cat to another. My cats are indoor cats, but I let them out for about 5 minutes a day so they can eat grass. I stay out with them to make sure other cats do not come around them. Just let them out a few min. a day, but keep them away from other cats.
I take my cats out supervised, and only once in a while. They don't beg to go out, but they love looking out, and when I take them out unleashed, they don't leave more than 5 feet away from my home. They just scuttle around the house from the front door to the back door :) I think you should let your cats enjoy the outdoors if that's what they want to do, you only live once. Just don't LEAVE them out there and forget about them!

I have 2 cats 1 male 1 female both are fixed. the male howls and bite the female neck is this normal play?

Answers:
I have found out that there is no 'normal' behavior when it comes to cats!

I have a male who is fixed who still goes through the motions, and I have a spayed 'alpha' female calico who will mount a neighbor's female who is in heat, including grabbing her neck!

The only thing you can expect from a cat is the unexpected!
You can take the balls off the cat but you cant... I dont where I am going. But hes probabaly just wanting to still go through the motions.
yes becayse it is the natural phenomena. My cat just bite each other too,you know!
This is very normal it is just a form of playing for them my cats do this all the time
Yes. Dont worry even if they are trying to mate nothing is gonna happen. Nothing to worry about
they maybe fixed but they know what they are supposed to do.which is reproduction..
yes thats normal all cats and dogs play like that they love to play rough its called play fight
oh sure they are adorables
maybe they didn't do such a good job on him...
It might be play, but you may want to train the male not to do that: I doubt the female is enjoying it. I have to watch a somewhat aggressive and rambunctious young male so he doesn't play too rough too.
I would think that it would be normal play, especially if she is doing it back. My parents dog rough houses and growls, but it is only in play. I wouldn't think that you'd have anything to worry about unless he really hurts her.
hmm, this is interesting. as long as there is no blood from the bites, i am to assume it's playful. unless he was getting into a shameful position (mating) then i dunno. but it happens sometimes.
yes.

I had my 2 cats for 2 years and now all of a sudden they crapped on the couch. whats the deal?

They are 2 brothers and have been neutered and declawed for about a year and a half. We have our catbox in the attic which they usually use but this morning my boyfriend (who wants to get rid of them) came in and said they crapped on the couch. There is a possibility the attic door was shut but when I ask my boyfriend he wont give me a straight answer. Would there be any other reasons for my cats to all of a sudden be crapping places?
Answers:
well your boyfriend is a liar he just wants you to get rid of the cats. The only other thing is like you said the attic door was closed (i'm assuming this is where the litter box is) and they were not able to get to the box, or if the litter box was too dirty they didn't want to go in it, some cats are picky about that. Did you actually "see" the mess??? I wouldn't believe it, I would just tell you boyfriend that if it happens again, you want to see it you self and that even if they did **** on the couch then there must be something wrong since they haven't done anything like that in the 2 years that you had them! Maybe they don't like your man and they did it to get back at him... :) Whatever it is I'm sure there is a very logical reason. You know I just thought of something else...where were you when this supposively happened??? And in my experience (my bf HATES my cat) if my cat made a mess a man that didn't like it would never clean up the mess he would have left it for me! And to be honest...he would have thrown the cat out no questions asked whether I was there to agree or not!
The fact that your boyfriend wouldn't give you a straight answer should tell you something. Apparently, he is trying to hide something. (And people say cats are sneaky!)

It's possible that if he spends a lot of time on that sofa, and the cats don't like him (typically, it's mutual), that they did that in a demonstration of dominance and dislike.

I have a very well litter-trained older cat, and the only time he (because males do this) ever went poo outside the box is when a new man moved into my house. (Husbands. Been married twice, happened both times).

So emotional stress can play a part. Don't be mad at the kitties, just try to get to the root cause. Might want to try training the boyfriend while you're at it.
yes it might be they r feeling the unwantedness of the bf or something is up in the attic. a lady friend of mine had rabbits that ran free in her house and they would use a litter box unless her bf was at home then they would do their business on his side of the bed only.
I agree that if the boyfriend will not give you a straight answer than chances are that he is either lying so that you gt rid of the cats or he could have very well shut the attic door on them. Cats are not really the type of pets that go with the flow and adjust to new things quickly. They can get stressed when their environment changes and I am sure that they sense that the boyfriend does not like them. These cats were here prior to him and they will most likely be there after him. Your boyfriend needs to understand that they are a part of your life and that he needs to accept them inorder to be a part of your life.
If a cat doesn't have access to the litter box (or if it isn't clean) they will have accidents, so make sure the attic door stays open (or move the box).

However, they may be showing their mutual dislike for your boyfriend. When I was young, we had a male cat and my father was the only one in the family who didn't like animals. More than once, he took a dump on my father's pillow.

Perhaps it's time to find a new bf???
your boyfriend might want to get rid of them so he is saying that it was open i should know i have 10 cats.
They smell your Butt luvin on the couch. Causes them to think that is the place for shiiiiiit ahah hah you and your boy friend need to keep the tools in the bedroom and also get a second litter box for the main floor or keep them up in the attic. If your a chic whats with the man silouette?
I have a couple of things for you to consider on this issue.
First of all, your cats are declawed. Being a shelter volunteer and longtime pet guardian, I am aware of how declawing can increase undesirable behavior in cats.
You can do an online search for "Declawing, litterbox" and find numerous sites on how their behavior may be affected. Many cats who have been declawed exhibit litterbox problems, and even biting (they have no other defense).
Secondly, the fact that your boyfriend does not want you to have these cats anymore is obvious to the cats. If your boyfriend won't give you a straight answer, there is a chance he may be treating them poorly, or is resentful of them because of the attention you give them (I have a friend who's now ex bf kicked her dog because he was jealous of him)! Please consider if this person and you are compatible if he's not supportive of your feline children. Pets are a lifetime commitment- if he can't understand that, you may want to find someone who is. Most pets outlive relationships.
As far as immediate things to do, make sure you use an enzyme cleaner where the kitties have soiled ("Nature's Miracle", Odor Mute, etc.) to prevent resoiling. These kill the odor which is undetectable by you via cleaning, but they can still smell it. Lastly, use TWO litterboxes. One per cat is protocol. Hope this helps!
It may have been puke. The cat may have puked up a hairball.I say get rid of the B/F before you get rid of the cats.
If your boyfriend didn't give you a straight answer, then I wouldn't be surprised if he was accidently left the door closed.

Also, with my experience, I have one cat who on a couple of occasions left her litter box with poop still stuck to her bum(due to cat hair cling or whatever) and unaware she ended up spreading the wealth everywhere she sat.

Cats are pretty anal about being clean and going where they are used to going. I don't think they would have done it on purpose...

I had a kitten die today for no reason . what are the causes of death?

we found her today all twisted and contorted into a weird position there was no blood or anything how did she die and if she died of a virus or something should i keep all of the kittens away from the rest of my animals?
Answers:
A number of things could have happened. From your description, she had a seizure of some sort. She could have eaten something poisonous- and given how sensitive a cat's system is, that is very likely. She could have eaten something else she shouldn't have. She could have had a heart attack, or could have been sick all along and had a blood clot break loose and lodge against her spine.

A check-up for the remaining kittens may be in order- though I don't think anything is wrong with them.

I'm sorry to hear about the one kitten.
God will.
http://likell.blogspot.com
Ugh.. i've seen that happen too... she/he probably got poisoned or something. If she/he was wet.. then she could of died of that too, if it was night and cold. I'm sorry for your kitten, "curiosity killed the cat." Maybe that's what happend...
It may have died from a preexisting medical condition. You should take the kitten to your vet to see what may have caused it.
It sounds like she may have had a seizure. I wonder if she could have been poisoned?
i am sorry to hear about your cat.It may have been it eat something harmful
She might have had a serious seizure???

She might have had a wacko disease???

She might have died of shock???

She might was poisoned???

She also might have been wet and cold the previous night???

Go to your vet %26 ask them. They have this thing where they cut em open to find out the cause of her death??? I know it's sad, but you have to if you want to know!!

Oh, and you might wanna keep her away from the rest of the litter, just in case....

I had a horrific experience with my vet...what should I do???

I took in my old cat to be put to sleep. He was given the first injection to make him sleepy, then the second injection to stop his heart and brain function. I was very sad but thanked the vet, he did a thing that I was unable to do for my kitty. He said " they call it a gentle death". Then he put his stethascope to my cats chest and said "his heart is still beating". He went into the back for more of inj. #2, tried the same vein but it had collapsed. Tried his back leg, didnt work, got my boyfriend to apply pressure to leg to get the vein to pop up...didnt work. Tried the other front leg jabbing several times before he excused himself again and came back with clippers. Shaved his leg, tried several more times for the vein before succeeding. My boyfriend gave me that cat 16 years ago. He has slept with us every night and has been more than a cat to us. Why was my cat not given enough medication? Why did we have to participate like that in euthanizing our family member? why?
Answers:
We give owners the choice to be with their animal when it is euthanized. If the owner wants to be present, we take the animal to the treatment area and place and intravenous catheter in its leg. That way, the drug is given right into the catheter. There is very little chance of running into problems that way. We don't miss or collapse veins. We also take extra euthanasia solution in the room with us just in case it is needed. If the cat seemed like it was already deceased to you, then the heartbeat at that point was probably not crucial to the cat being aware of anything. Sometimes we do give a second dose of medication or just wait a minute for the heart to stop. The veterinarian should have had someone from his staff help him though, not one of you! Sorry his death wasn't as easy as it should have been, but I'm very glad you did the right thing and didn't let him die "comfortably" at home. I doubt dying at home is always "comfortable" like many people seem to think.
Your baby was indirectly already dead...the fact is the brain had stopped but not the heart...your vet knew that he had to finish the process...unfortunately your were there and thats how it was...your vet could have lied to you and just took the cat in the back and did his thing...so it could have been worse...when my little dog died they said to put her to sleep...but i just took her home and let her die in her favorite chair...at home with me and her son...who loved her...friends said I was cruel...when its time for them its never going to be right or easy...just think of the beauty of having that pet...
That is horrible. You should never have been involved in that to begin with. We had to take our cat to be put to sleep and we said goodbye to her and dropped her off. They should NOT have done it right infront of you and most CERTAINLY not have asked you to help. I would most certainly write them a letter telling them how unhappy you were with their services. Tell them how unprofessional the experience was and devestating to sit there and watch someone try several times to put your cat under. I'm so sorry you had to experience that.
whoa. did that relly happen. yikes. talk to the people where your cat was "killed" and get more info,
Don't do the "put down" routine again. you have learned your lesson. Keep the animal with you- it only takes 2-3 days or a week at tops. Hold them, groom them gently and when they are ready to go they will die in your arms while you are rocking them softly. It is emotionally traumatizing and very sad. But you will have been with your animal through to the end- with no intervention. I have never understood why people pay someone to kill their cat. nature takes her own sweet time- don't mess with mother nature. I ignore all the people who say "the cat is suffering" "he's in pain- it's inhumane" etc.
I look at it this way- if they were out in the wilds they would seek shelter and then be caught by some larger animal and killed.
Most vets will take your pet in the back to put it to sleep, and have their staff assist if needed. I don't think I could have stood there watching without going crazy! Also it usually takes about 15 minutes for the drugs to complete the job, did the vet even wait that long? I don't think there is alot you can do. Check with the Better Business Bearu to see if they've had anyother complaints, also the Vetrinary Medical Assoc., but I would change vets in the future.
I think it is unfortunate that you had to see the problems that arose when trying to put your kitty down. At least he checked to make sure your kitty was actually gone, there have been cases in which animals have walked out of landfills because they really weren't gone, so you have to give him that. The vet was just doing his job and some animals fight it like you wouldn't believe no matter how much they give and this may have been the case with your kitty. I think maybe you could have left teh room if you were uncomfortable with what was happening-you didn't "have to" be there when he was euthanized. I personally think the vet did what he could to let your kitty go "gently", but every so often problems do arise. There may not have been a vet tech available to help him at the time or maybe he didn't forsee there being so many problems. I think you could express your feelings to the vet and he would be very sympathetic with you, but other than that ther's not much else you could do in my eyes. I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved pet and hope you are able to overcome this.
ohh.. i am so sorry to hear you had such an awful experience.. it's hard enough havin to do that in the first place. I am sure the vet, technician likely felt terribly as well for what happened, but i suppose that does happen from time to time unfortunately.. just over two years ago.. i had to put my dog down, and had had her for 14 yrs.. i went in with her for the whole thing.. held onto her.. she was yellow lab.. and just havin to do that, was one of the worst things in my life i've had to do.. kids are constantly askin for another pet, another dog.. and no way.. can't go through that again .. i know it's hard.. sorry for your loss.. did the vet clinic do anything? send letter/card?? the vet i took my dog to, i was amazed, they sent flowers and a card, they were really good.. anyway.. hope you take care..
I myself had something similar happen but I realized the doctor did what he did to the best of veterinary/his ability.

I realized how we got to where we were and what brought us to the vet's office. and how much better a gentle death would be...I instead like many other times in my life ( and Lot's of pet owners do this) I threw money at the problem.

My dog died,I paid a ton more money than I had too
because he was my best friend and I wanted to help
it didn't
I got mad at the doctor too,I lost one dog but I bet he
saved a dozen or so more that day. they get desensitized
after a while, all puppies and kittens are cute, can't savem all.

Veins collapse while saving people,s lives or donating blood too much.
it is not uncommon in the medical world for that to happen
I would just be glad it didn't wake up..and if you get another pet try another vet
I'm sorry for the passing of your pet. Yes, please write a letter, to the vet, letting him know how hard it was on you to see your cat be "put down" that way. To please be more professional and proficient for other animals and their families in the future. It could be your cat was stubborn, and didn't want to go quite yet. Or, the correct amount of meds were not given the first time, or the second time, obviously. I am sure the vet was trying to do his best, it just wasn't quite good enough. Take care. Also, I am sure you wanted to be with your pet as he died, but sometimes it is best to not be. It all depends on each person. It was good that you did observe what you did. In the way that you can write a letter in regards to this matter.
If your cat had circulatory problems from cancer, kidney disease, or an infection, injecting the euthanasia solution into the bloodstream is not the most effective way to dose the drug. For old sick cats, we sedate them, and inject the drug directly into their liver. They don't feel a thing, and the circulatory system doesn't have to be open or pressurized for the drug to work.

As for what you should DO about it.. your vet didn't really do anything wrong, except for the lack of experience euthanizing cats with geriatric diseases. My condolences for your difficulty, and no owner should ever be a part of a euthanasia if they don't want to. It is the right thing to do, but it's difficult to deal with for many people. My heart goes out to you %26lt;3
first of all thank you for caring enough about him to not let him suffer. maybe the vet mad a miscalculation on the dosage the first time. although even if that was the reason he still should have been able to do it without all that needless poking and prodding. i would switch your vet next time and write them a letter telling them your feelings about that situation.
Your cat was unconscious so there was no suffering involved.

This is not totally unknown. Our very, very elderly German Shepherd came down with cancer and we had to do the right thing. The vet (a very kind and compassionate man) gave him the injection, but said, "His heart won't stop beating." His heart was so strong that it took three injections before it finally came to rest. But if you have ever had anesthesia, you will know that one minute you are awake, the next out completely without even getting sleepy.

Why shouldn't you have to participate like that? Loyalty works both ways you know. You SHOULD be there for your beloved pet! I, for one, would rather be there helping, instead of leaving my beloved pet alone with strangers, no matter how kind.

I am sure your cat was immensely relieved to be free of his pain. Think of when you have the stomach flu -- all you want is for the misery to end.
First I would like to extend my condolences on your loss. It sounds as though you loved your kitty very much! And though it was difficult, you chose to put him to sleep, rather than have him live in pain. Personally, I believe you made the right choice, no question about it!

The situation with your vet has just left me speechless! Making the decision to euthanize a beloved pet is difficult enough without having to participate in the actual act! I think that you should inform your vet of how disappointed you are with the whole situation. If you have any other pets, you might want to consider taking them to another vet for all their future needs. Beyond expressing your frustration with your vet, I don't think that there is much else that can be done. Should he have given more medication during the first injection.yes. But the best that you can hope for is that he will learn from his mistake and not repeat it with others.

I am sorry about your kitty. I know how painful it is to lose such a treasured member of the family. I wish you all the best!

I had 5 kittens that the owner did not want them so i took them at 5 wks old and now there all there all sick?

Answers:
they were probally to young to be taken into a different home, they still need their mother. go to the vet and they can give you kitten milk and check them out for any thing that can be wrong with them
You can buy special kitten milk from the pet store...
if it is serious then definitely call the vet..
how old are they? go take them to the vet if they dont look right, if they are less that 6 weeks old go get soem kittem milk and a eye dropper or find a nother mama cat that already has kittens and if the cat will let them they will nurse

o yeah my kitten died of distemper take them to the vet my kitten died in my arms and i dont want those to die take them to the vet!! i waited to long for mine
Please take them to the doctor immediately!! It sounds like they have distemper. If so they will die wrath er quickly as it takes over there immune system quite fast. Distemper is very common in kittens. Thy need medical attention from a vet A.S.A.P. If you cannot afford the vet then either give them to someone who can or bring them to the humane society. They will give them the medical treatment they need, vaccinate them, then find them good homes. Don't worry about them getting euthanized kittens go fast !! good luck and do the right thing!!!
Definitely get them checked out by the vet. I wouldn't suggest putting them on another momma cat, as they may have a disease that could be transmitted or vice versa. They would have to be bottle fed, but only for about a week or two weeks at the most.

I had 5 cats, then one had 7 kittens so I was feeding cat food and kitten food..?

Now the kittens are over a year old and they all like kitten food the best...is this okay for them ?
Answers:
Cats tend to prefer kitten food to adult cat food. Maybe it's tastier. Sometimes it has milk flavor in it.

However, kitten food contains extra minerals that developing kittens need but grown up cats do not. In fact, the extra minerals are not good for them.

When you switch your over to adult food, do it gradually to avoid a big Finicky Cats incident. First mix in the adult food so it is 20% or 25% of their total, and gradually increase the proportion over the period of two or three weeks till they are eating adult food exclusively. Be sure to feed them a high-quality brand.
I would imagine it would be alright. If they get hungry enough they will eat anything though.
i have a cat at my home and when he was a baby he was eating cat food. i don't know how but he did
anyways its been 7 years and my cat is healthy and loving and caring as any other cat

good luck in keeping all those cats loll!!
Kitten food is high in calories, because kittens are so active and need the extra calories. If you keep them on the kitten food they could become overweight.
Well kitten food had that extra nutrition for the growth, Just like they have Senior formula for the older cat to get that right nutrition also. So try to get them on regular cat food to prevent extra weight gain.

You might have to shop around to get the food to their taste. I sure did
You need to switch the cats to adult food or your cats will get fat.

I got my cat Kovu when he was a kitten. And he always like to suck on my ears and shirt like I was his mother.

Now he's a year old and still does it. I'm pretty sure he considers me his mom since I've taken care of him so long. But I figured it was something he would grow out of...does anyone else have this problem?
Answers:
This happens mostly when a kitten is taken from it's mother too soon. I got a 4 week old kitten a couple of years ago from a shelter and she did it all her life. It's for comfort. I never was able to make mine stop. My baby died last week and I would give the world to have her "knead" me again. Enjoy your kitty.
i had one cat from kitten who did that. i don't find it a problem
but not your ears
Most domesticated cats think their owner is their mother/father. My cat will bury its head in my ample stomach, but probably best to discourage yours from ear sucking.
I'm sure your cat knows that you are not his biological mother, but he does see you as his caretaker. He his showing you love and care. This also shows that he respects and trusts you and feels comfortable around you. Also an animal is not going to break a habit that they enjoy unless they are told to. If it doesn't bother you, let the cat have his way.
Habit. Was he hand reared?
I hand reared a kitten and he still did it into his teens.
it means that he was weened to soon good luck on getting it stopped but i wouldn't let it suck on my ears... good luck
Hello there, I have recently lost my most beloved torti cat, right from when I had her from a kitten she did the same thing I believe that she was taken from her mother from a very early age she was sixteen when she died but considered me her mum right up to the end, so doubt if he will grow out of this. Personally I think this is a most endearing habit and miss my cats attentions, but she was very spoiled and ruled the house, what am I saying she owned it!

Anyway do not worry this is natural and hope you have a long and happy life with your little poppet as I did with mine. I have to admit although I have six cats now I would love to have her back, so enjoy while you still can.

Good luck and best wishes
My mother had a cat that did that. Its a habit for him.If u allow him to do that he will allways do that.U need to tell him no and not let him do that in time he will stop it.
I have a cat that sucks my thumb, got her from people who neglected her. But I agree it's a problem that occurrs when the kitten is separated from its mother too young. 12 weeks is recommended.
I had a cat that liked to sneak up at night, stick her tongue in my ears and lick them. She was a "runt of the litter" cat and did this throughout her life, which was a fairly normal lifespan at 13 years.

The cat I have now (another female giveaway "runt") started out by suckling on my neck, right under the chin, while kneading my upper chest with her paws. She would also do this at night with a loud sucking sound. I figured this was some kind of comfort for her, that I was her surrogate "mother." I lost sleep but it seemed to placate her restlessness.

She also waits outside the shower and jumps onto my back when I come out, wrapping all four paws around as best she can, as if to give me a big bear hug. She's always done this and howls if I take too long bathing (maybe her sibs were drowned?).

After about six years, she doesn't do the sucking thing so much, but rather puts her wet nose right under my chin at night and kneads as before. Sometimes she licks my face affectionately.

I could always push her away, but I wonder what kind of insecurity led to this behavior, and whether deprivation would actually benefit her.

Interestingly, she has also alternately displayed aggressive tendencies, including swatting and biting me. This is more likely if I am busy and not minding her enough. Whatever insecurity she has, it runs deep.

After lots of trial and error, I have found that when she craves attention, fussing over her seems to satisfy her need for closeness. I chase her around in games of tag, pretending to nip at her neck with my hand when she lies down in surrender (mimics kitten play). I throw a little dish pad up in the air that she loves to catch (she starts running in anticipation of the toss), stroke her fur when she greets me upon arrival, and snuggle with her when she's in the mood. Basically, the preemptive affection seems to have made her more secure.

While it takes more of my time and energy to do these things, it seems to have mitigated her violent outbursts.

I have often thought in the past of getting rid of her, but I was pretty sure nobody else would put up with her tendencies. I felt it was my job to figure her out and tame her. After much experimentation and lots of cooperation on my part, the gamble seems to have paid off. She rarely displays aggression, and her affectionate behavior is more acceptable.

I got my cat Elliot 1 yr ago He still will not let me pet him. What can I do ??

I also have another cat Sophie she is very loveable.
Someone please help.
Answers:
My dad got a cat, they told him that was very lovey and loved to be petted, to be held and to sit on laps. When we got her, she didn't want any of those things, especially to be held.

I would periodically pick her up and hold her snugly so she couldn't get away from me. When I released her, I moved from snug hold to completely open all at once, so that it was clear that I was deciding to release her, and she wasn't escaping. Start off for brief periods of time, like maybe 10 seconds at first. Do this a couple times a day, and in a couple of months your cat will actually want to be picked up and held (or at least tolerate it well).
all i got is to just maybe stay away from him for a couple fo days and maybe let him have his space. or u can maybe feed him treats
You mean to tell me, you have had your cat for a year and have'nt petted him once!
Cats are not like dogs. A person does not choose a cat for a friend. The cat chooses a person for a friend. If you already have one that loves you, the other can sense that and since some cats are aloof to being petted and pampered by people, it will avoid you until it wants to be loved also.
This happened to me in a way. My one cat is very loveable and the other is not so. He would harldy let you pet him or play with him. But it changed, now you can never get the other cat off you. So I think it will just take time.
If Elliot had a previous owner, maybe he was abused, making it difficult for him to trust humans. If not, then he'll come around in his own time. Just give him lots of attention. They're like children..right?
Like each person each cat has a personality. Some love to be petted and some do not. I have a cat that likes to be petted but will not sit in your lap and does not like to be held. On the other hand my mothers cat is a lap cat all the way and stays at her side. Just differences in kitty personality.

I got a new kitten. he's black and is very fisty so i named it Puma. there is sttill time 4 a name change.

Any ideas?
Answers:
Oh that name is so cute! And by the sounds of it, perfect for the little guy's personality. If you would like a variety of names to choose from incase this name doesn't turn out to be "the one" you should look up pet names or even baby names. There's tons there, and they usually show the meanings too. That's what I do as soon as I get a new pet! Good luck with your new kitty cat!
thats a cute name!
i have two black kittens myself and i named them after resident evil characters! Leon and Wesscker%26lt;---spelled wrong :P
i also had one once named bagherah after the jungle book panther! =)
Don't change it. Puma's a wonderful name. Better still, when your kitten grows up it'll still suit.
I like that name, you should sick with Puma. Congrats on your new kitty. Good luck;^)
Puma is a very suitable name. I think you should keep it. :)

Other name ideas for a male black cat: Raven, Akuji, Calder, Sable, Blake, Ciar, Cola, Nero, Shadow.
That surely is a great name for your new kitty!

I have a black female whose name is Inky, named after a black cat I had in my childhood years. I call her Inkybink.

I took one from the same mother's next litter, also black, but sure to be longer-haired. She jumped up and attached herself to my boyfriend's arm out of nowhere! Right away her name was Ninja. And he already called her "Dot" because she was a little tiny speck of a thing begging to just get stepped on! Anyway, I ended up calling her "Ninja.com".Ninja dot com. I think that was one the most creative names in the book. Sad to say, she didn't make it.

Anyhow, enjoy your little Puma, I am very excited for you!

Nicolle
dont change your kittens name! you've already named him and it's already become a part of him. it would be like namin your baby boy and then when he turned 1 decidied to change it. This name is so cute and just from reading what you put i can tell its a perfect fit. puma is also a name that means strong, brave, reliable, and comforting. Sure playful is a given in that name too. since your kitten is black thats another perfect fit. this name and this kitten were made for each other!

I got a new kitten and it has only ben sitting in one spot for7 hours what should i do?

Answers:
Your kitten may be ill, but it may also just be terrified. Speak softly to him or her and try to keep the house quiet. Try to put food and water near by so that she has an opportunity to eat and drink without leaving her spot.

It's not unusual for a new kitten to act this way, but he or she should gradually feel comfortable enough to start to explore. A vet check up may not be a bad idea either since your kitty will need vaccinations and deworming anyway.
Pick it up %26 cuddle with him or offer it food or just say 'heereeee kitty heree kitty kitty'
Go over and pick it up and snuggle and play with it. It may be having a bit of a problem with going to a new home. You have to make it feel comfortable in its new home. Have you shown it where its cat pan is? Take it to the cat pan and set it down into it and then walk away. After that, show kitty its water and food dish and walk away from that area too. Once kitty has discovered where the bathroom and food supply is at, it will become more at ease.
Pick her up and cuddle her and make that spot comfy an box and a blanket.
pick it up and take it everywhere with you...
Give her some love and attention
Get the kitten to the vet. When a cat sits in one spot it is in distress, your kitten is ill.
probably scared. pick up %26 play with her/him. :)

I got a couple kiitens from a lady in my neigborhood and they are supposed to be siblings but...?

The boy is way smaller than the girl. They are supposed to be 8 weeks old, but the little boy only appears to be 4 or 5 weeks old. He doesn't like to play and he sleeps a LOT! He is eating solid food and using the litter box, but he just seems so tiny. Should I give him some kitten milk, or just wait for him to catch up on his own?
Answers:
He is probably the runt. Give him time to catch up. You'll probably be surprised at how big the runts can turn out to be.
He may need extra TLC and food, so watch to seee that he gets enough to eat. (His siblings may be hogging the food.) If you don't notice a difference in his appearance and activity levels soon, I'd take him to a good vet for a check up.
I'm sure they are probably siblings...Chances are, the boy is the runt of the litter...That tends to happen in most litters. In most cases, they grow very fast...And he may stay small for a while, but in my experience, the runt always grows up to be the biggest...My year old cat, Monster, was the runt.when he was born, he could fit in the palm of my hand, while the others were probably at least twice his size. And now, he's bigger than all of them! At a year old he weighs 11 pounds and it's solid muscle!! So no worries...As long as he's eating and drinking like normal, he will just just fine and will definately grow like a weed!!!

Happy Tails!
I have a cat that the shelter called me about. They were about to put her down because of her size. She had three siblings that were twice her size. They were afraid to let her go to someone that didn't know cats because of her size so they called me and I'm glad they did. At 8 weeks old she was smaller than the palm of my hand. I took her to the vet and he said she was fine but that I should wait until she was a year old to get her spayed (my cats are indoor only). She never even came into heat and at a year I had her spayed. She's six years old now and my little joy. Take both of them to your vet and see what they say. He could just be the runt and will catch up, hard to say. Also it may be that they have different fathers and his was a small one that too can happen. Good luck;^)

let your friend name it. you said it was a gift.
If you got it for your friend let her name it
Why not call it Tiger.
goldie, tiger, buttercup, sandy?

I dont know? somethin like that.
To be honest with you, since you got the cat for your friend, I would let your friend name it. Or you could brainstorm together, that would be fun for both of you. We struggled with a name for our new cat. We finally decided we had to watch it's behavior for awhile before giving it a name. We are very pleased we waited now. Good luck, and I hope your friend loves the new cat!
why dont you let her name it???
psssssssst,comes everytime you call
Tigger
Blondie
Goldie
He has GOLD body with TAN stripes...so he is GOLDEN TAN.I think you should call him "coppertone"
IF YOU GOT IT FOR YOUR FRIEND, THEN LET YOUR FRIEND NAME IT. USUALLY AFTER A FEW DAYS, YOU GET STUCK ON CALLING YOUR NEW PET SOMETHING.
Ya, let your friend name it.

I found kittens in my backyard, what can I feed them tonight?

I don't really have the option to go buy them food tonight. Is there any human food they can eat that would be okay for just tonight??
Answers:
Cute little kittens. I think they around 5-6 week mark.

I recently rescued a little kitten about four weeks ago, I rang my vet and asked them what to feed it.

I was told a little diluted milk, or evaporated milk, and a little bit or finely diced meat (raw), or give them ordinary cat food if you have it. To get them to drink you may have use a dropper, to get them to start lapping up milk.

To keep them warm at night, use a hot water bottle %26 wrap in a old towel. Keep them confined to a small box.
Diluted evaporated (canned) milk, about 50/50. Goats milk or Pedialyte. Don't give them straight milk, it will give them diarrhea. Baby food mixed in or bread %26 egg yokes. . Egg whites are not realy good for them so you could add just the yolks.
Milk. They need Milk all the time
fish, tuna, clean water, not milk cause it could cause stomach upset for cats, and no chocolate or any sweet food, you can also try eggs, or chicken and warm it in water
milk
Milk
No you really need to get them special kitty food. You shouldn't of moved them so quickly. Some times the mother goes out for food or is in the middle of moving them to a new location. The mom's nurse milk was the best thing for them.

They sell kitten formula with baby bottles in the pet store along with kitten hard food.
depending on how young they are, perhaps milk would be the best thing.

though tuna and/or shrimp (deveined and de-tailed) wouldn't be bad either
You neglect to say how old they might be....do you have any tuna?
milk
warm milk
Depends on how old they are. If they are old enough to eat wet food, then give them some wet food. If they are really young then they might need formula.

How the heck did they end up in your yard?

Call the SPCA as soon as you can. Kittens find homes fast.
Hi. How old do you think they are? If you happen to have infant formular that would be ideal. otherwise try weetbix soaked in water to make them mushy. If they look old enough to eat something a bit more solid then mince should be good. If you have any meat pies in the freezer - scrape the meat out and warm it so that its just a tiny bit above room temperature. that should be okay. Or some eggs. Don't give them cows milk. Not all cats and dogs are lactose intolerant but they're probably too young to be testing them on it. Good luck.
u may giv them your biscuits soaked in milk or milk alone.
It will be kitten's pleasure.
If they're really young, give them milk. That always worked with our kittens. A bottle works well. Warm it up for them, though. If they're old enough to be weaned, I would think some sort of soft meat would do the trick.
just warm up a little bit of milk and dilute it with water. That should be okay for tonight until you get to the store.
you should feed them tuna, milk, bread soaked in milk.
tuna is ok but not for all the time. Half of cats tolerate milk, half do not. my cat enjoys little (tiny) slivers of raw steak, cooked chicken, salmon, etc. put some out, let them decide
When my baby kitties mama disappeared (I think my neighbor had something to do with it but I can't prove it) I gave them a little bit of diluted milk until I could get to the store. They were about fours weeks old at the time and started eating food not too long after. Thank you for taking care of those babies :-)
call the poeple in charge and then get rid of them.
you dont want trouble.what are pets good for?to destroy your money and then die!
but give them milk but if its fat free it good and warm it a bit till it gets a body temp.
Give them milk .

I found cats in my backyard today, Any advice on how to take care of them?

I don't know how old they are.

I have a picture, just click this link: http://img329.imageshack.us/my.php?image... (There are 4 of them, but only 2 are pictured.)

I got them to drink a bit of water, but not exactly sure what to feed them.

I have a Vet appointment tomorrow.

Any advice would be perfect!
Answers:
Hello...well they sure are cuuuute %26 beings you have a vet appt for tomorrow, not much for me to say here...if they use a litter box all is well ..if not that could take some training which I would be glad to help you with if you need some tips ( if you have any dogs tho NO CLUMPING LITTER where dogs can get to it..dangerous..I can be E mailed thru my profile or 360 page...as for food any kitten or cat food that says 100% nutrionally complete is fine..dry is best or with some water to soften it ... NO DAIRY products, unless the vet prescribes a formula..but if they can eat regular cat food, all should be well %26 good..Take Care :)
Feed them canned foods that don't contain gravy and of course, love them.
Get some wet kitten food they should eat that if not try kitten milk
enjoy them while they are kittens then get rid of them the moment they get big and get a dog cuz cats are lame.
Milk, and go to a pet shop and get the baby cat food, those are beautiful kittens, good luck whit them!
the kittens seem about 3-4 weeks old. Give them some kitten wet food and water. If you see them eating the wet food than you dont need to feed them the kmr.

If they are not eating the wet food, than go to your local pet store and ask for KMR (kitten milk replacement) that also get a bottle (sold in the pet store). then you mix the powder with water, 2 parts water one part powder and out in the bottle. The nipple on the bottle will also need to be opened. To do this you push a needle or a paper clip end through it and then heat it up. you heat up the paper clip or needle, not the nipple. than slide it back through the nipple. You may have to do this two times. Once that is done, when you put water in it, the water should drip out slowly, not fast..

Ok than read the label on the kmr to see how much they should be eating.. If they are eating wet food they will just need lots of love and attention to get them used to humans. This can take a little bit but it is well worth it once they get older. When they are around 8 weeks old is when you can find then another home or keep them yourself. you are going to want to vaccinate them and get them fixed before they go to a new home! Best of luck!
OMG they are gorgeous!
My best advice is to leave them where you found them, at least for a day or two, but put a cardboard box over them with a little doorway. leave them some food (whatever you decided to give them) and water.
Mother cats sometimes move their litter to a safer place if they feel threatened where they are, so she might come back for them.

I found blood in his urine...?

so off to the vet we went.he has crystals in his bladder so the vet gave us a very expensive RX cat food...this was 3 weeks ago...now he pees in my computer chair on a daily basis...sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.is he mad at me? I caught him today and grabbed him and took him back to the chair and said no and showed him where he urinated then told him no again...now he sits lurking behind the door!
Answers:
cats don't do well with scolding. Most likely he's found it uncomfortable to pee from the crystals and sees the litter box as what made him uncomfortable. my boy now stands to pee so i had to get a very high sided box so he didn't pee out the side. you may try moving the box to a spot where he feels comfortable for a bit. then slowly move it back to where it is now. If he associates the box and that spot to the discomfort then it may take some time. If you continue to scold him you may provok him to do it when you aren't looking and yes then it will be because he's trying to get back at you. I'm so sorry and i know it's frustrating but patience will help. Just remember it probably still hurts a little when he pees.
Once a cat pees on something it's almost impossible to get them to stop...do you really need a computer chair that reeks of urine? Consider if it would be worth it to get rid of the chair to make it stop.
Its pretty odd for a cat to pee anywhere but a box. You have one, right? So if he's peeing in your chair? Is he not in control of his bladder? Call your vet. This is a continuation from the visit you made 3 weeks ago. He should be willing to talk to you on the phone without charging you. But if he insists, get a follow up visit. This could be a medical problem related to the original problem. He's lurking because he doesn't understand why you're mad at him. Get him help. And not here. Call the vet.
OK so your cat is urinating somewhere he shouldn't?

Ok so lets take a step back, and look at where you expect him to pee.

yes the litter tray.

cats are amazingly clean animals, and im willing to bet your tray is a bit stinky.

what you saw 3 weeks ago was cystitis (inflamation of the bladder) and this can be caused by infection (crystals are usually secondary) but 98% of the time it is caused by stress, relating often to litter tray use.

so here's what to do
1/ dont punish you cat for urinating in the wrong plce. not his fault - your fault
2/ change the way you manage your litter trays
- add 1 more liter trya for 1 cat you should have 2 trays, 3 cats, you need 4
- line the tray with news paper, and a small amount of cat litter, then picking up the 4 corners, you can replace 1005 of the cat litter every day
- ensure the tray is in a quiet place, not where people are walking past all the time

he has unfortunately for you found somewhere he prefers to pee than your litter tray, on your chair, this is because he feels safe there and it is clean

you must make him feel this way about the litter tray

you can also try other stress reduction measures such as Feliway spray or diffuser

http://www.feliway.com/homefeliway.nsf...

any way good luck
You did not say whether the cat's condition had improved. It is possible that he still has irritation from the crystals, and that first urination in your chair was an accident. Unfortunately, once the scent is in a material or surface, the cat will return to urinate there, even if the bladder is not a problem.

I would take him back for a check-up if he has not been already, and I would also buy some Cat Attract litter which will make his litter box more appealing to him. The other poster's suggestion about replacing the chair is a good one, unless it is possilble to replace just the seat.

It *can* be a behavior problem, but the physical causes should be ruled out first, and the urine smell that is attracting him should be removed. If you replace the seat or whole chair, make sure the next one has a protective cover, just in case. Should the cat pee on that, and the vet says he is doing well with the urinary problem, then it likely is psychological and you need to examine what changes have taken place in the home. Cats normally do not do this marking of territory unless they are upset, and their favorite targets are personal things of their people, like couches, beds and chairs.

Your scolding him is pointless and will only give him the idea you are angry, without knowing why. Cats are not like dogs, who interpret voice tones, and not exact words. Dogs know what a scold is for if done immediately after an action that is not acceptable. Cats do not. All they know is the anger in the voice that makes them afraid of you. It will not cure his problem, and may make it worse.

I found a stray kitten and her mommy i don't know what to do?

Answers:
give the kitten some warm milk and give the mom cat caned food or tuna
keep them!!! do your parents know about this??? do they support you, also put an add in the paper.
Awww! Aren't you sweet?? Can your folks take you to the store so you can buy a little bit of cat food? If you don't want to keep the cats, maybe you can take care of them until you can get them to a shelter, or until you can find homes for them.

By the way, sounds like you're doing everything you can.

Sandy
Well take it to the vet to get it a check up then name them
Give them some milk and towels. Give it some tuna. take some yarn balls and entertain them.
First of all just get them some kitten food! The mommy cat will get extra vitamins and nutrients to feed the baby! Thats a good start.
A nursing mother wil need the proper food. Buy her some Purina Kitten Chow. It will supply her with more vitamins and so forth than the chow for adult cats. You might try to get the kitten to eat as well.
As far as the litter box goes if you sit the mother in a clean litter box, she'll know what to do with it.
Good for you!!!!!!!!!...
it depends if you want to keep them or not, let them rest for a few days. maybe call the animal shelter.
also put some signs around, it is possible it belongs to someone and she ran off when looking for somewhere to give birth, funny there is only 1 kitten, have a look/listen around where you found her, there maybe some more hungry little fluffballs around
You are very sweet. Sounds like you are doing a great job! I'm sure that momma and baby will make great pets. You could give mom a can of tuna just as an extra treat and talk to you parents about a vet visit. Good Luck
take them to the vet to help them. if it has no coller put up posters if nowone can prove it is theirs keep it and help the cats they would LOVE that to have food again and fresh water
ps:buy cat food
Make sure you pick up some good cat food for the mother. If the kitten is still nursing then she will be fine until she is ready for kitten food. You should take them to the vet to get checked out, make sure there aren't any other problems, and make sure they are both vaccinated. The mother may not necessarily be a stray, have the vet check for a microchip, so if she isn't really a stray she can be returned to her owner.
if you don't want to keep the take them to the humane Socie but if you do want to keep them get some cat food and a dishes for food and water and show the where the liter box is and they will be fine. :) :)
Make sure you allow the mommy to go outside as she may need to go get the other kittens, they are helpless, without their mother they will die!

Also, they probably belong one of you neighbours, you should try to find out who has lost a cat and return them, don't lock mommy indoors, that is stealing.
I think you are doing a great job! I agree with the answers about giving the mother cat food. Place the litter box within sight of the kitten so the mother will feel more secure about leaving her kitten for a few minutes. I understand you want to keep them but calling the SPCA might give you some more ideas of what to do. Believe me, they would rather you have them instead of them. Have fun!
Get your mommy cat special cat milk so it can nurse its child. Put blankets under where the mother nurses its child so it can get comfortable. Your mommy cat might not want to use her litter box at first because its used to using the bathroom outside. Let it get used to you and your house. Your kitten is at least 2 weeks old because kittens open there eyes when there 2 weeks old. At 6 weeks old they are mature enough to be without there mommy. Give your cat a bath(if it cooperates with you) Don't forget to give your mommy cat its shots! You don't know if it has a diesease since it's a stray cat and also take it to the vet regularly. Good luck on your mommy cat and kitten!
i think you should take them to the vets, to get them checked over, they may not be any visable paracites or illnesses but there are lots of things you can catch from stray animals, they may need a vacination of somesort, especially if you are concidering keeping them.other then that just keep an eye on them from a distance and do not overcrowd them or smother them to much as they are not use to this as they were strays.Slowly introduce yourself to them and make them feel comfortable, maybe make a bed for them under your bed were they would feel safe. As for the litter tray i do not think that the mommy cat would come to terms with this very well as living outside all her life but the kitten, because still young, will find it easier to learn. hope you can use this to help you out.
i don't think u should keep them because they might mean the world to someone just think what if u lost your cat and its mother would you want someone else to keep them and not take them to an shelter or something u should turn them in to an local shelter or vet and wait 30 day for someone to clam them and if they don't you should just keep them
ask your parents to get cat food because dog foods not good for her, it lacks nutrition. but other wise your doing great!
take them to the vets and they will treat them properly, you've done a great job! or if you want to keep them like i would then take them to the vet for a checkup
put up some posters..
I doubt if they belong to anybody, people dump animals all the time rather than take them to the animal shelter. But just in case they do belong to someone who is looking for them, put up posters in your neighborhood. However if this Mama cat and her baby are out loose their previous owner is not taking very good care of them. The fact that the mother cat ate all the dog food you gave her is proof nobody is feeding her and left her to fend for herself and baby. I think you are doing a great job just taking these cats and trying to do the right thing. Ask your parents to take you to the store for some good cat %26 kitten food if you haven't already. Will they let you keep them? You will have to eventually take them in for shots (asap) and then have the cat spayed. The rest of the answers you got here say the rest, just don't listen to the ones that tell you to take them to a shelter and give them up! Unless your parents won't let you keep them. But that should be the last resort. Try finding them a good home first. Or call an animal rescue group. You can find one by searching the internet for your city.
Good Luck
Kenekee..
you are so smart
how wonderful

Im sure the cats would thakyou if they could

You probably saved their lives

Now ideally you should get them to a vet
but make sure theres water around

if the mom is feeding then she'll need more food
and a warm safe place to rest away from the dog and any disturbances

Ok hon

check on your mom or dad to ensure they know what you did an dhow kind hearted you ve been
they need a scratching post. otherwise they will scratch your furniture appart. also have a few cat play things. kittens are VERY playfull. they will need taking to the vet to get checkups and shots. cat food. love. places for them to sleep
give them only cat food i guess the dog food was okay for the moment, but shes a cat thats nursing so she needs all the nurishment she can get to nurse her baby. so feed her water and cat food, dont give them milk, milk is bad for a cats digestive system. kinda of like fish. and tell ur parents so that if they find them one day and decide to throw them one the street u will have ample time to give them away or do something like a no kill shelter! good luck to ya
well you should take them to the vet still because they could have mights or something or maybe even heart worms which if they do have heart worms they could die if they dont get treated in time or properly. i watch animal planet alllll the time .so i no my animals.you also should put fliers up around the naberhood because someone could own them and love them alot plus if they have the other kitten they will need the mother. if someone claims them maybe they will give you one of the kittens!
Thats sweet but cats can eat dog food? thats weird lol
but ask your parents if you can keep the kittens
this question was posted a week ago so I'm not sure if you still have the mom cat on dog food if you do you need to do get some replacement milk to feed to the kitten, moms milk is very important while they are nursing and if your feeding them something other than normal cat food the kitten may not get all the nutrients it needs from moms milk. or if mom for some reason stops nursing just go get a little syringe and some replacement milk ( can get if from any wal-mart, K-mart stores like that) and feed it to the kitten just to make sure its getting what it needs! other than that just keep an eye out for any odd changes in the kittens behavior or moms if anything arises call the vet! good luck and have fun! :)
Please buy cat food. In cat manuals, it says not to give them dog food. It's fine if you have not been doing it for a while, but just please try to give them cat food. Keep them because of you let them go, they could get run over by a car, or something bad like that could happen. Also, please do not sell them to somebody. You can't sell them because you do not know their original birthdate and I think you might need all their papers. Just please keep them in the house with you until the kitten is old enough to go outside with her mother. Thank you, good luck, and please follow my directions.
