I am moving , what can I do to make it less stressful for my cat?

cats have that homing thing. When our neighbors moved in their cat ran away. How do I keep ours from doing the same when we move to a new state?
Answers:
Don't let the cat outside for a couple weeks and your vet can give you some tranquilzers for the cat for the actual move. Put the cat in a quite room with some of your clothes in it for the first couple of days. The familiar smell will sooth the cat.
just give him lots of affection and I wouldn't let him go outside for a while just in case maybe even a new toy
The only sure way to keep him from running away is don't let him outside. Also give lots of attention and love. Animals don't respond to gifts (toys) like humans.
When we moved we always made sure to bring along any and all toys that the cats loved with us. We also made sure to confine them to one room while moving the furniture in. Since our cats are all indoor cats we never had to worry about them leaving.

We have had all our cats neutered and that has helped with the worry about them roaming, too. The only problem we have ever encountered is when they were in tact and then sometimes they got it into their heads to go for a walk. Since neutering them that urge has gone away though.
