How long after getting my male cat neutered, should the hormones be out of his system?

We got a 1 yr old Male cat a few weeks ago. He was spraying (inside the box thankfully), but it still smells to high heaven, and crying all the time, begging to get outside. So we got him fixed yesterday! His urine still smells though, and he is still crying to get outside. The vet said that it can take up to two weeks for the hormones to get out of his system.
Does anyone have any expereince with how long it takes ? thanks in advance

I've been wondering about this too! My male cat got neutered 4 months ago and he's still going after Fluffy, the neighbour's cat (she is quite pretty). My vet was not surprised by this. If I remember correctly, the terrible urine smell went away within a couple of weeks. But other than that, neutering changed almost nothing. It seems that our cats may have been too old at the time of neutering (1 yr) to completely change their behaviour -- the testosterone programmed them to act in a certain way (see website below). As my vet said, he still thinks he's a man.
my sisters a vet and she said what the vet said is right and because of his old ago when he was nutured he migh stil lhav esome behave markign problems for a wile so hang in there
I agree with the vet. It can take up to two weeks for the hormones to completely leave his system.
Since the cat is a year old.. he has already been spraying and etc.. He is still a kitten.. and he will adjust.. just takes time.. Be patient with him..
I have a cat that is 13 and still sprays .. he has been kept separate from my other cats for the entire time.. I love him.. and this is how it is..Cats should be spayed and neutered when they are young enough not to have formed bad habits.
