How long will my fiv positive cat live?

Answers:
I have done a lot of study on this. Most cats can live up to 10 years, without even showing symptoms of FIV. Most vats call them poor doers, meaning that they get sick more than others. One thing I have noticed in mine is that she gets constipated a lot. I give her chicken broth every morning to make sure she keeps her fluids up. I also, feed her pumpkin pie filling to help control hair balls and to give her extra fiber. It is so worth it. I love her so much.
not long..sorry..the kitty wasn't vaccinated at the proper time
Hard to say. Had one dx'd around age 5, she died around age 6. Unfortunately this was before the shots came out so there was nothing I could do other than frequent vet trips, anti-biotics and science diet CD. She died 17 years ago before I had a computer but our vet was very supportive. You might want to get involved with www.petloss.com as they have an excellent support forum and you'll meet people going through the same thing. In the 17 years since I lost my dear friend, veterinary medicine has made some progress so you might have more treatment options than I did.
fiv is a immunosuppressive disease so if you are doing as you should be and keeping him in and not allowing him contact with other animals you will be protecting him from picking up infections from outside
many of them pick up the odd bug here and there but normally a course of antibiotics will pick them up again
there is a drug on the market called interferon which is meant to suppress the disease so best to ask your vet about that
most fiv cats that i have seen as a vet nurse have lived a normal live span as long as clients are diligent and get any form of illness treated straight away rather than leaving a couple of days to see if it gets better because often it doesnt
It could live a decent life if you keep it healthy. Keeping him inside, keep all of your other vaccinations up to date as well as worming and flea treatments and you can extend his lifespan. Might also be time to look at a complete dry food like Iams, Eukanuba, Hills or Pro Plan to keep him as healthy as possible.
