I have the perfect results that take only one time for the cat to jump on your counter and no more will he do it. My cat Saige, was terrable for that. I took cheap dish soap and poured it all over the counter and on the end where I knew he jumps on at I took a cheap beaded necklace put it under some aliuminum foil and poured soap on it too. That night when I went to bed, we heard him jump up there and right on the floor he went. i went to check on him and he was licking his feet and I told him to stay off the counter. I left it on the counter for a week, I looked for his feet print when I would get him and after that one night he never did it again. Cats dont like wet things on their feet. Try it and email me and let me know how it works!
I use double stick tape. It feels weird on their feet and they hate it. It took a couple of days to get them off. Now I only put it down once in awhile as a reminder.
I use a rolled up newspaper or magazine to smack the counter near the cat while I tell them NO. I am carefull not to hit the cat but the newspaper makes a loud noise and it works quite well. I have also used a spray bottle filled with water but found that one of the cats really liked the water so I had to resort to the newspaper.
You can put double-sided tape on the counter for awhile, they don't like the feeling on their claws. Good luck!
put some tin foil on it, eventualy you wont need it
Keep an empty spray bottle filled with water and about 1/4 cup of vinegar.
When the cat jumps on the counter, hiss at the cat loudly and at the same time spray it.
After you do this a few times, the cat will associate your hiss with the water and jump off the counter.
After a few more times, it will stay off the counter.
Theres a couple of things you can do...Use a spray bottle and when the cat goes on the counters, spray her with the water...Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't if you have cats like mike that LOVE water...Otherwise, take some vinegar and put it on the counter...Just a thin layer of it, but enough so that when she jumps on the counter it gets her feet wet...When she starts to clean herself she'll get the vinegar in her mouth and she probably won't do it anymore...If she doesn't jump up there when it's wet, then after you put the vinegar down, put her up there yourself, but make sure you put her right into the puddle of vinegar...May take a couple times, but she should get the hint
i personally cant stand this however when i have company i lock my kitty in the bedroom and if i am preparing food, the same thing. there are ways that i have read about in cornell universitys feline institute book. one is to squirt them with a plant mister every time. i felt mean when i did this and it really didn't stop him for the next time. and the counter was wet so i made work for myself. two very good ideas that do work were
one-stick two sided tape on the counter for a few weeks. tevery time the cat gets up there he will stick on it and not like it and cats are much smarter than dogs so this is why after a few times they will associate the counter with them getting stuck and will remember it and not care to repeat the experience. the other was to buy a couple of feet of those plastic runners people buy to put on top of high traffic areas to protect their rugs from dirt. they are sold by the foot or yard. i forget which.in walmart, home depot etc. turn it upside down so the little nubs that make it not slide on the rug are faced up so when kitty goes on it, he/she will not like the feeling of it on their little paws. these thing do work.the easiest was the rug runner.you can roll it up astore it easilt for future times if they forget.
I have sorta the same problem, my cats want to get on the table in the dinning room, to look at the hamsters. That is the only table they want to get on, but they know they aren't allowed. I have tried the spray bottle, but they have gotten smart enough not to get one when I am awake or home. I have tried the tinfoil, they love the feel of it. I almost resorted to a shocking pad, but didn't want to spend $100 on it. But the double stick tape works, only if that bugs your cat. It bugs 2 of my three, but not the third. There are things you can get. That will make a load noice and spray water at them automatically, so that it will do it when you aren't home. They are like $15 and can get them at petsmart. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
You can keep a cat off the counter as long as you never go anywhere. After coming home to foot prints every day, I gave up. Now I just keep them off when I'm cooking.
I have heard putting foil down helps. Also spray the cat with water bottle if they do it. Different cats respond to different things.
My cat gets on the counter all the time. Sure you can spray it with a spray bottle, smack a newspaper on the counter, use double sided sticky tape... but do you seriously think that when your not there your cat is going to think to itself "Hmmm, I probably shouldn't get up here, my owner might get mad". Come on now! All I do is yell at her to get down and she does!
Tin foil... place a sheet the length of the counter. Cats hate the noise it makes.
