I am considering buying a kitten and was wondering how early I would be able to get this done as I dont want any surprises.
Answers:
You take them to the vet for their first kitten jabs at 8 weeks and they are best for advice - we had our girls done just before they turned 6 months which is when they start to reach sexual maturity.
They are in and out in one day and none the wiser about it.
I think you are being very responsible looking into these things before taking on a cat. They are delightful pets and lovely to have around.
Not sure if if the same for a cat but in dogs its 6 months old.so maybe its the same.
its between 6-12 months depending on your vet
hope this helps x
The Youngest Age That Vets Will Spay Or Neuter A Kitten Is 6 Months Old. Thats When We Got Our Kitten Done. But I'd Advise Keeping Them Inside Untill They've Had The Operation And Healed, That Way If You Get A Girl She Won't Get Pregnant And If You Get A Boy, He Cant Get Anyone Pregnant
Good Luck With Your New Kitty x
Two months is when you can get a kitty neutered or spayed. Most adopted kittens are already neutered or spayed, the Humane Society does it asap. You want to get them spayed by six months old at the latest, because after that they can get pregnant for the girls and start going into painful heats. And for boys it means your cat will start spraying your furniture and may never stop even after fixed. Thanks for being such a good parent! Both my cats were spayed at six months, because back then they recommended doing it right before the first heat. But now that they do it younger,I wish I had done it at least a few weeks sooner -- my elder cat was actually going into her first heat when I got her fixed (no symptoms yet) so I had to pay extra. But at least she didn't suffer. Remember, if they avoid all this stuff they are much healthier in their old age. Good luck and thanks for being such a good parent!
I have a ten week old kitten myself. She is due for her jabs but the vets have told me they don't spay until 6 months old.
Leave the poor cats jewels alone! How would you feel having your genitals removed...not very nice huh?
I think it depends on who you ask and your vet's opinion. Some breeders suggest as early as 4 months although many vets will suggest 6 is more appropriate as very few kittens will call before then.
A kitten, male or female, can be neutered as early as six weeks. If the came from a shelter, he or she will be neutered by six to nine weeks of age. (Depending of the shelter of course.)
If the cat did not come a shelter, you got it from another place like or friend or found a "kitten sale :)", neutering should take place with in the first six months.
Allow females to have at least one litter. Studies have shown that cats that had at least one litter have a lesser chance of getting cancer in their elder years. Also, a cat can become pregnant again while nursing the litter. Just an FYI.
If you have a good vet, bring them there. if you can not afford a vet or don't know of a good one, contact the ASPCA. Many towns have free neutering programs in the spring/summer. Also the ASPCA can recommend a good Vet or Vet School to preform the procedure.
Good Luck
Alot of vets are different. I know of some as early as 6 weeks as long as the kitten weight is 2lbs. This is alot easier on the kitten too. You really need to check with you vet. And that is good you want it spayed or neutered. They make such better pets too. Good luck. :>)
they have to be 6 months old before they can be neutured, if you get a kitten from a rescue home they will pay some towards having them neutured nearer the time
Generally it is between 4 and 6 weeks but check with your vet when you go for the vaccinations.
Consult your vet, and do it as young as the vet thinks is appropriate.
One important thing to keep in mind if you get a female is that spaying before first heat eliminates the chance of developing mammary cancer later in life. This is very worthwhile, since mammary cancer is the most common fatal cancer among females with developed mammaries.
Neutering a male before puberty will make him less likely to spray to mark his territory.

Good luck with your new kitty! I wish you many years of fun, love and happiness together!
Five and a half to 6 months. never take it in to be spayed if it is in heat, it could kill the cat, so try to before the 6th month, and no eariler than 5 and a half months.
after they turn 1yr old
I do kittens at 8 weeks and puppies 6-8 weeks.
If your vet won't do it find one who will. 4 of the 6 vets I use will the others their main concern is pets that young being in the hospital without all their vaccinations
I foster kittens for the Humane Society and I have to give them back when they are 2 pounds. Sometimes the cats are 8 weeks, sometimes 12, but always 2 pounds. If you wait until they are 6 months they could go through a heat cycle. Some cats will go into their first heat at 4 months old. If your vet wants to wait then call the local Humane Society or animal shelter and ask them for the name of vets in the area that will do it at 2 pounds.
Also I've had cat that I've found on the street at a year old and older, and I've kept a pair of kittens that I've fostered. The kittens fixed at 2 pounds were fine, they were up and running that night, and healed beautifully. The older the cat the harder it was for them to recover.
It's about 6 months, but the first season in a queen can be a little earlier so take care.
do it before he/she reaches 6 months. if you wait, then the cat is going to act hyper, pee everywhere and yell(female cats yell).
