How to get rid of ear mites using over the counter medicine?

im not sure if she has ear mites but she is scratching her ears alot.
Answers:
Check the inside of her ears for some brown waxy build up that is a sure sign of ear mites. Clean them out with a cotton ball and alcohol til you get all of it out then you can treat with an over the counter med.
I've tried the over the counter and ended up going to the vet. I was surprised that the vets medicine (which works a whole lot better) was just as inexpensive as the Walmart stuff! Even if you don't want an office visit, you can still go in and look at the medicine for sale in the vets office. Most will help you pick out something that will help your cat.
go to the vet and get the medication...the over the counter stuff is poision and you could easily put too much and cause the cat to go into seizures...I had one who went into seizures over the smallest amount...the vet will prescribe the correct amount for your cats weight...and it wont cost alot
Please go to the vet. The OTC stuff rarely works. Plus it may just be an infection and not ear mites. I thought one of my Chihuahua's had ear mites so I took him to the vet, but it was just an infection even though he had the brown build up. I could have made things worse had I of given him the wrong medication.
Before treating for ear mites, you should have her ears looked at by the vet. It could be an infection, it could be ear mites.the medication that you give will depend on what the ailment is.
Mites are microscopic so you'd have to take her to the vet. I never recommend self-diagnosing unless you are a pet doc.
If she does have ear mites, use a few drops of Wesson corn oil, massage it in, then clean with cotton ball. Repeat, daily for 3 days.
Earmites show up as black specks in the ears. You can use mineral oil and a q-tip, and just don't stick the cotton swabs in far.
